You can't get a plastic bag at Wegman's checkout. But almost everything they sell is in a plastic bag or package.
There's no ban on the thick plastic potato chip bags that are 1/4 chips, and 3/4 filled with air. Instead these fools ban the checkout bags, they're practically the thinnest bags you can find. You can crumple 20 of them up and fit them into your pocket. Sorry sir, we can no longer offer a wafer thin bag to hold your 10 pre-packaged in thick plastic items. You're welcome to purchase a paper bag. We've discontinued the campaign to save the trees. I hope you're not allergic to formaldehyde or paper mites. When I shop at Wegmans now, I make sure to grab a handful of the clear plastic bags on a roll that are available in the meat and produce department, then I use them at the checkout to bag my groceries. Its catching on, I've seen a few other people do the same thing.
