I think it would be a mistake for Diaz. Diaz can trade punches but he won't have the take down or kicks when he punches himself out. Boxers take literally hundreds of hits in a fight. As long as Vargas comes in shape he would demolish Diaz I feel in the same manner Couture demolished Toney in MMA......

Yea I never liked Diaz myself because he talked so much trash. But he has grown on me because he has exciting fights. And I agree boxers would beat mma guys in boxing and mma guys would dominate boxers in the cage. It was rumored long time ago Anderson Silva wanted to box Roy Jones Jr. at one point, but Dana White wouldn't allow it.

I do hope they start making some match ups between some of the top Strikeforce guys vs the top UFC guys.
Melendez brought the heat as well. Good fights. Felt a little sorry for Jardine. I've thought in his last few fights that he should hang up the gloves and this fight confirmed that. I know he took it on short notice but IMO it's more than that. Some of those great fighters from his days, Forrest Griffin, Tito, all those guys have simply been surpassed by the younger more rounded fighters coming up these days.

I felt bad for Jardine also, he is a warrior with heart. Kinda like Chuck Liddell, he is one of my favorite fighters and I'm glad Chuck retired. I couldn't stand watching him get KO, in his last couple of fights.

Did anyone catch the Shields/GSP feature on Spike? Shields camp appears to be going well and I like the confidence. I don't think its a facade and Shields really feels he can win.
I still feel confident GSP is prime for a loss....

I gotta ask . . . Not being a fan of UFC or any spin-offs, is the fighting for real, or is it like pro wrestling? I assume it's real but don't know for sure.

It's no accident that Shields, Melendez and the Diaz brothers are all champions and all fight out of the same gym. I think he's got the right camp and I think he continues to improve but I still doubt it will be enough to overcome GSP. I'll agree with you though that anyone who's been on top as long as GSP runs the risk of getting complacent. So far though, I haven't seen that from GSP. Wish the fight was this weekend already!

It's real. I am friends with someone who's nephew is a local fighter that has fought on a UFC undercard and recently with Strikeforce. Very real....

It's as real as it gets while still being a "sport". I only do sparring and training, never fought for money but even with protective gear on, the hits certainly feel real to me!
My SO tried to get me to quit because for awhile, every time I was home on leave I'd wind up in the doctors office as a result of injuries and like I said, I only do it for practice.

Great Thread!! Like most here I really enjoy the UFC!! Last night's show was damn good with a great fight between the guys trying to get a contract. I like that almost as much as the PPV's.
We should plan a group outing for one of the upcomming fights. That would be a lot of fun and while I like GC's, maybe twin Peaks or someplace like it would be a better environment with a trip to the GC afterwards!
Interesting side note, at a recent charity auction for a friend with terminal cancer, I purchased a "retired" UFC Championship belt. It is pretty cool.
On and to stay on topic, I think St. Pierre will take this one. The one I was to see is St. Pierre and Anderson Silva.

I'd definitely be down for a UFC outing. Beer, food, meeting some of the people from here and good fights on the tube. What's not to like?!
That's a unique purchase Spacemtn! Congrats on that.
I have mixed feelings about a Silva/GSP fight. Sure it may be entertaining but Silva walks around at 220 when he's not fighting. I think he's too big for GSP. That's why I'm disappointed that Silva has shown no interest in going back up to Light Heavy at 205 and fighting Jones. It would be a more evenly matched fight physically I feel.

Hey Sixx, you ever make any of the King of Combat fights when they come to Austin? Some of the smaller promotions like KOC and others in the area you can get VIP seats right up by the cage for really reasonable prices. Pretty fun being up close like that.

Yea guys whenever y'all wanna get together to watch UFC, just send me a PM. We can watch it anywhere, and DT I have been to a couple of the local KOTC events not bad at all, except for the no air condition in there. I went to the latest UFC event here in Austin, Dana sent a tweet to like first 50 people to show up at a location they were giving away free tickets. My buddy showed up and got 4 free tickets, floor level seats.
Spacemtn you bought a UFC belt, cool who's belt was it?

I never have. I have usually had to work the weekends of the fights. I will make it one day soon.
Still can't believe you think GSP will win lol\

All that's missing is the biting and scratching.
I'm sorry guys, I know how popular MMA is, but it's got a long way to go to be a real sport imho. With the exception of a few of the more spectacular knockouts, I find it to be visually unpleasing and pedantic. Guys lying on the floor trying to sneak in a rabbit punch? No wonder the rounds are 5 minutes long.
Give me the sweet science any day. Hell of a lot more athletic imho.
