I still have my Colt 1911, it's great, but my choice "carry" is the Glock 40, and for home protection... I LOVE my Desert Eagle 44 and DE 50, I also have a few others to select from though...

Also if it comes to HAVING to use it, do NOT shoot to scare or injure, shoot to KILL! your life my depend on it! and it is a LOT easier not having someone that you shot testifying in court against you

I am asking about the registration laws in Arkansas. Perhaps I should have started a new thread with this question. Every one has their favorite hand gun, and can post it here. Does anyone know what the requirements are to register a gun received as a gift?

RM, there are no requirements to register anything. I'm not even sure there's a process to register a firearm in AR (not AK, BTW) if you wanted to. For the concealed carry permit, what you can carry depends on what weapon you shoot to qualify; if you qualify with a revolver, you can only carry a revolver, but if you qualify with an auto, you can carry an auto or revolver. Weird thing, though, even with the permit, you can't carry a blackjack or long-bladed knife. Go figger.

I understand your point.

But from my perspective, why carry a knife to a gun fight?

Ginger.... for your car or home, I would stay with the Ruger .357.... but move up to a 4" barrel for better balance, less recoil, improved accuracy.... .38 +P's make a fine defense round... without becoming a hand cannon.

If your purse will be a carrier.... I simply suggest a small S&W J-Frame Airweight, 5-Shot, hammerless, .38 revolver.... very light , and great for getting into and out of a purse quickly!!

Autos are fun and fancy.... but revolvers just work

Well, lookie there. Me & Giz found something we agree on.

I prefer revolvers, too. In fact, I've decide on the Smith & Wesson .38. I want an all purpose, in or out of the purse gun. I've completed my class & I've mailed off my carry permit application...I plan on buying it after Christmas. I'm even getting that cool after market grip with the laser in it. I'm really excited!

And I didn't leave any room in the budget for switchblades. Lol @ Mac...good point.

Oh, I have a switchblade also. But I never carry it with me to gun fights.

All good points above. If you passed your test for a concealed handgun permit with a revolver, you will be issued a RESTRICTED hand gun permit in Arkansas. You will only be permitted to carry a revolver.

If you use an automatic to pass your test, your permit will be UNRESTRICTED. You can carry a revolver or an automatic.

I will take my test with an automatic Ruger .22. (Yes, you can take the test with an automatic .22.) I 'll pack my Glock .40 automatic and my .45 Taurus Judge (3" chamber) revolver. The Judge is definitely not for light weights.

The Judge will shoot .45 Long Colt and .410. It will not shoot the .45 ACP without a "moon ring."

The Judge comes in 2.5" or 3" chambers. I got the 3" chamber but had to wait. The .410 shells come in 2.5" and 3".
