Where do you come up with this nonsense, zanyzit? The term "capitalism" wasn't even in use until the late 19th century, after slavery was abolished. You might as well say Columbus sailed "in the name of Capitalism". You are very uneducated.

Default It's Your Thread, Debbie!

Let's assume you take a job in a widget factory. The factory uses old machinery that only lets you produce 2 widgets per hour. The widgets sell for $5 a piece. Does that mean your labor is worth $10 an hour?

Now hold that thought. Let's assume an engineer designs a new machine that can produce 10 widgets per hour. He sells the design to a company that builds these new machines. The owner of the factory buys the machine and installs it for you to operate. Now you are stamping out 10 widgets per hour. Does this mean your labor is suddenly worth $50 an hour? What did you do to earn such a big raise? If 100% of the production value goes to you, how do the engineer, the machinery maker, and the factory owner get paid for their labor, intellectual capital, investments and risk-taking?

Ok, that's more than one question but I hope you will give it your best shot.

Come on, Debbie, give it a shot. You can disagree but at least engage in the discussion. You started this thread so let's hear what you think.

Apparently this Zanyasaurus lacks some knowledge in the subject matter he posts about. For one thing as you stated Capitalism didn't come about till 1900 and slavery was already abolished. But then why didn't slaves venture back to Africa, cause they would end up being slaves again. As the link to this video will confirm Blacks were not the only slaves, in fact blacks enslaved white Europeans in North Africa long before the American colonies were established. That's something
the equal rights thumpers will never admit to.

You've already been embarassed by others.....my turn. The pilgrims never had slaves. They did not do Indian (what a politically incorrect term from a liberal) wars and like someone said, the term capitalism had not been coined yet. The concept was there but not the word that can be put on a banner.

Capitalism isn't responsible for everything done in its name, no more than you are responsible for all the crimes other black guys commit all out of proportion to their share of the population. Additionally, you are not responsible for other gays practicing unsafe sex in the name of homosexual rights, and creating a disproportionate amount of new HIV cases.

Very nice troll material. However, I'm a shark so you should probably keep on fishing or use the proper fishing tool to catch sharks. ;-)

On a similar subject, I asked Debbie what she though of this scenario

She is working in a whorehouse in New Orleans. She is a hot chick in her prime, and has honed her skills to where she can easily bring in $3000 a day to the House.

Ole Judy in the next room is pretty homely, not much to look at, and only takes in the low ballers and chinch bugs. She barely clears $500 a day.

But, since this is a Socialist WhoreHouse, the "owner" takes his cut of 50%, and divides the remaining equal among Debbie and Judy, each getting $875.

"From each according to her ability, to each according to her needs"

Sound fair?

Noticed how you deflected and didn't try to defend your original statement, zany. It was the adherence to economic theories stemming from mercantilism -- not capitalism -- that fueled European imperial expansion up until the end of the 19th century, zany. It was during that period that the British and Dutch established their respective colonies in North America, zany. The African slave trade in North America was legally at an end before laws and regulations governing commerce in Western states had changed from supporting mercantilism to those reflecting the new economic theories embraced by capitalism.

Capitalism does work for the whole of society.

Nothing has done more to advance the general well being of the masses than the concept of private property, and individual rights = the very basis of capitalism.

If our goal is to improve the quality of life in the world and society in general, then capitalism is the best choice. If our goal is to provide "fairness" and "equal outcomes" then perhaps another system is the choice.

Please note that a choice of any other system will restrain capital, not build it. It is the business of these other systems, like socialism, to concentrate power in the hands of an elite few.

The elite few under such systems exploit "useful idiots" to gain power. Capitalism can be argued that it may exploit the worker, but at least its the worker's choice.

It is capital, not rhetoric, that brings goods and services to people.

To create capital, one must employ capitalism.

Capitalism brings more goods and more services to more people than any other suck-ass system in the history of mankind.

Under capitalism, the vast majority benefit. Under socialism, everyone sucks.

If you want socialism, fine. Don't complain when the things and comforts you like are no longer there.
