Default Just Watched the Fight

I finally got a chance to watch the fight on HBO Replay, and there is no doubt what so ever that the Ref had already called the action to resume, and Mayweather nailed Ortiz.

Ortiz is a nice, likeable man. Mayweather is not. The natural response is to think something was amiss, but the simple fact remains that Ortiz forgot, for what ever reason, the basic instruction of "protect yourself at all times".

In the end, this will probably make a better fighter of Ortiz. In the mean time, Floyd Mayweather could care less.

Manny carried Marquez last time because he didn't want to kill the guy. But Marquez's corner would not throw in the towel. I gotta take Manny.

Sure you're not talking about Margarito?

I stand corrected, I'm confident he'll take Marquez as well...

Thank you SD!

Backside of his career? Floyd is his Sr. and anyone with some realy boxing common sense know's Pacroids last 10 fights have been with Shell, Past their prime, washed up, weight drained fighters and now fighting Marquez after almost 10yrs of ducking him AND making marquez come up to a weight that we've all seen he can't handle.

Gotta love this double standard.

So true and they are all at catch weights. I will post the comparison list of May vs Pac opponents:
Mayweather:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Mayweather,_Jr.

Pacman:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manny_Pacquiao

Go to pro fight record and notice that most of Manny's big wins were at catchweight. if you know boxing then you understand the significance of this

Lol the only catchweight manny had was dela hoya and cotto! U make it sound like he did catchweight his whole career.oh and btw it was dela hoyas idea to come down not manny.oh plus manny came straight from featherweight so theres no excuse why those bigger guys cudnt destroy him.but yet they blame the "little" guy for demolishing the bigger guys coz of catchweight.and floyd cudnt even own up to his catchweight when he alreay had the advantage against marquez.but still came in 2lbs heavier.

Did you actually read it. If you had, you would see that the following were all at catch weight:

Margarito, Marquez, Cotto
These are the fights he gets the most credit for

Some random observations about the fight after watching it again last night on DDR.

What was up with Victor Ortiz acting like everybody needed a hug and was his best friend after the fight? He just got knocked the F out and he is grinning ear to ear. Not saying he should not exhibit good sportsmanship, but dude you don't have to enjoy your defeat so much, at least act like it upset you. Only thing I can figure is he was ecstatic about getting out without any major brain damage, and getting the opportunity to be Mayweather's over payed sparing partner for another pay per view show in the future. Reminded me of that guy at a party who has too much alcohol and does the "I love you man" thing to everyone there.

The staff and crew does not need to become part of the event. Larry Merchant and Joe Cortiz were not there to compete with the two fighters for media coverage. I understand that Merchant was not responsible for Mayweather's rant, but he could have handled it like a professional. Joe Cortiz did not keep his head the game, and did not see the knockout. That is inexcusable. Joe seemed more concerned with promoting his own copyrighted catch phrase "I am fair but firm". (Yeah, he has a website for that, and legally copyrighted it) If he had not been looking away and done a more traditional and controlled separation of the fighters, this drama might not have happened. Not an excuse for Ortiz, but an unnecessary distraction. Both need a vacation from the sport.

At least we have something to talk about after the fight other than how outclassed Victor was. HBO will do another 24/7, an unabashedly 4 week long infomercial for their next pay per view TV show. That will provide Mayweather with another cash injection late in his career, and will probably be the last significant payday that Ortiz sees before he becomes a truck driver like his trainer and brother.

Both fighters were on the verge of fighting dirty. Elbows were flying, and both had the good political sense to complain about the other doing it prior to the fight. That head butt really looked intentional to me.

Boxing needs a legitimate fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather. The fact that it has not happened shows how far the sport has fallen. MMA will continue to erode boxing's hold on American sports enthusiasts until it becomes as insignificant as professional darts. Boxing constantly reminds me of Horse racing, couple of times a year it has a big event and makes some news, people bet a lot of money, the casinos and betting houses win big, and no one is completely sure that it's not fixed.

I noticed that as well. Ortiz was all happy and giving that ole 'we gave the crowd a good show' crap, seemingly not at all concerned that he had just got knocked into the next County.

It was almost surreal.
