It's a hell of a lot more true than they want to admit. It is frighteningly similar to some of the problems in the Soviet Union that were predicted as early as the late 70s: demographis were killing them. In their case it was not enough Slavs to fill the "controling" rolls in the military and party. Our obesity and drug use treaten having enough people for our military at all.

Michelle Obama is pushing 50 and may be past it.

The other two appear to be professional models - Carli Bruni of France definitely was - who are the much younger trophy wives of older men. i don't know who the other lady is. She is Spanish, but could be the wife of the the prime minister, or the president.

I give credit to Obama for not doing that.

And no matter how much you diet, there is definitely a genetic factor in body shape. Look up mesomorph, ectomorph, and endomorph.

There is nothing a woman can do about it. So a woman can be lean, like Michelle Obama, but still have wide hips. Biology is destiny.

The funny thing is that when I watched the clip, she never said the thing she is being accused of, she simply agreed with the presenter.

The clip goes:

Presenter: Obesity is the greatest threat to national security

Michelle: Absolutely (and then clip cuts off, we have no idea what she then said, she might have said absolutely that is a dumb thing to say, but at least it gets the issue discussed, or absolutely, but there are other threats which we much not ignore, or bla bla bla)

So it should really have gone like this:

Presenter: Obesity is the greatest threat to national security

Michelle: Well, that is an interesting thought, certainly obesity is a very serious threat to the well being of our nation, but I'm not sure whether it is the greatest threat to national security, can you please elaborate?

Wouldn't that have made terrific television?

The only dumbasses in all this is the presenter and those who make an issue of this to criticise Michelle.

WHAT!!! Are you really claiming that someone with a biased agenda would selectively take a person's comments out of context to make a artificial politital smear? Horrors! I would never believe that!

But seriously, does that kind of think surprise you? We have sadly gone to that level of mudslinging. We used to have one RW Loon who would actuallt hit the QUOTE button on here and then change a person's words, still claiming it was what they said. And he was so sick he really seemed to believe that was a reasonable thing to do.

I had a long running battle on the Daily Telegraph blog, where a DT journalist continued a vicious campaign against Ken Livingstone. There were headlines saying:

Ken says London should become a beacon for Islam.

Ken of course said no such thing, he merely said London should become a beacon for tolerance, and quoted some of the words from the prophets last sermon, which nobody in their right mind would find anything but uplifting.

But of course the 'beacon of Islam' tag got very attached to Ken.

ps. what was shameful was that ken Livingstone, when incumbent Mayor of London, played a major part in the olympic bid. However, come the Olympics, he was not offered even a single seat to watch, let alone play a part in any ceremony.

You are absolutely correct. And it is done too often with complete knowledge and intent. Someone is taken out of context--or even "credited" with a completely made up statement--and then it is intentionally spread all over. One person quoting the lie is used by another to "verify" what has no basis in truth.

It is exceedingly sad that we have politicized everything. Nothing is about right, wrong, discussion, finding common ground. It has become about deamonizing "them", and "winning". Anyone who disagrees, even on minor points, is not "wrong", they are "evil". And once made evil, any means--even out right lies--becomes fair game in their ill minds.
