You’d think Cherington would jump on this opportunity to make those moves Nutting claimed publicly he could.
Things aren’t always what they seem. Nutting will always be what he is and the Pirates will unfortunately aim for average under his ownership.

... It's a sad state of affaires, Char.
Madden had a column on it today... "Spend Some Money!"

... I do agree with Bambino that Skenes should have been
allowed to keep going until he gave up a hit.

... On to the south side of Chicago - the baddest part of towne...

Just think if the Pirates selected Dylan Cruz instead of Skenes? They were rated equally coming into the draft. Cruz was just promoted to AAA ball. The Pirates selected Skenes and signed him to the richest rookie contract In MLB history.

Yes it is.

This town, media, fans, politicians, etc need to apply more pressure to this POS owner instead of making excuses for him.

Now we have the best pitcher in baseball for 4 more years, we should build around him. Think he will???

... Exactly, Char... Madden made a great point today.
The Steelers and Penquins put a good effort into having
enough of a roster (NO "rebuilding" years) to TRY and
make the play-offs EVERY Year.

But somehow still - the Pirates get a pass.
They can surely "Cry Poor-Mouth" and their penny-pinching
ways are tolerated by the fans.

... Something's gotta give.

... On a lighter note - Did I just hear that Skenes was chosen
to start as pitcher in the upcoming All-Star battle?

Both of those leagues have salary caps. DUH. But the Penguins tanked twice to get Mario and Syd. The Steelers went 6/10 to get Ben. The Pirates tanked to get Skenes. See how that works? But the Pirates are in a free market league. The Steelers and Penguins are in capped leagues. The Pirates made the playoffs 2013/2015. When they’re in a position to add players they will. The Pens missed the playoffs the last two years and the future doesn’t look good. And the Steelers haven’t been serious Super Bowl contenders for years. They needed help last year to sneak in and got clobbered again.

BTW, Mark Madden’s a jackass

Here’s where the Pirates rank in REVENUES. For those who aren’t deep thinkers, that’s the money they bring in. They rank 23rd and last in their division. That’s why Cuban didn’t want to buy them and went after the Cubs, who rank 3rd.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/...teams-in-2010/

Now, the Pirates rank 8th in profit. But behind the A’s who are dead last in revenues. Seattle is first in net profit. Can Nutting spend a little more? Of course. He will. The Pirates are on the right track. Like they were in 2012. He added to the payroll then. He’s not going to pump money into payroll when they are tanking. It doesn’t make sense.

Raise it!! Gonzalez came back with a strong outing. Nick Gonzalez is turning into a solid pro. Good bat and defense. Sweep gets the Bucs to 500 at the break. I think they’ll be buyers and sellers. They don’t really need Chapman. He’s inconsistent but might bring a solid prospect. Perez and Grandal might go too. They don’t need them and aren’t a part of the strategy going forward. They don’t need to bring in superstars. Just solid, proven bats.

No. I’m Bambino. Always have been. You suffer from TDS and NDS. (Nutting deranged syndrome) The Pirates are on the right track. They will be contenders for a playoff spot this year and will get better going forward. You can live in your world of hate. Let’s get the sweep today and get to 500. My glass is always half full. I refuse to live my life as a pessimist.

... ... Ye Christ! ... "Nutting Derangement Syndrome"

Reckon I surely may suffer from THAT me-self on occasion...
But then I also suffer from "High Prices at the Grocery" syndrome.
