Ugh, I said I didn't take you people to raise and I'm feeling
lazy today so here is the short version.
Yes Constantine help to canonize a bible, sounds simple doesn't
it, not so much.
There are basically the books that are now included in the new testament
and what are know as the Gnostic Gospels, (do I have to go into a
long explanation of who the Gnostic's were) that is all there is, the
Gnostic writings were considered false by the early church fathers,
One doesn't have to read very far into them to see why. and the
authorship of them was more than a little bit questionable.
The included books were around before Constantine and were already
considered to be the true Gospels. There are complete examples and
near complete examples that pre date Constantine and no proof
that they were rewritten by anyone.
Just because Constantine was involved in the gathering together
of books to be included into a bible proves nothing and lends no
credit or discredit to anything.
Like I said you basically have the books that are now included in the
bible and the Gnostic writings, and that is all there is or ever was.
The only exception are a few apocryphal writings that aren't
considered Gnostic but who's authenticity as been questioned.
Again any idea that Constantine had any of the books rewritten
has no credibility because of pre Constantine copies and the earlier
known and accepted beliefs about who and what Jesus was.
