A group of
far-left rioters in Philadelphia are facing charges for vandalizing federal buildings on New Year’s Eve, leaving behind
“Antifa-related graffiti,” police said.
Roughly 50 people clad in all black descended upon Center City and defaced the historic US Customs House, the Robert Nix Federal Building and the Federal Detention Center late Thursday,
the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
The federal lockup at Seventh and Arch streets was vandalized by far-left protesters with “Antifa-related graffiti,” Philadelphia police Chief Inspector Mike Cram said Thursday.
The group bashed in windows and scrawled an anti-police acronym — “ACAB” (for “All cops are bastards”) — on a nearby sheriff’s van, police said.
One of the rioters tossed a brick through a window at the Robert Nix Federal Building, while others shattered more windows there and tagged its exterior with graffiti, the Inquirer reported.
Several in the group were also found with “numerous Molotov cocktails” and other unidentified devices, Cram said.
Police said Adam McVicker, 25, of Coatesville, Pennsylvania, was spotted throwing a brick through the building, where damage was estimated at about $3,000,
WPVI reported.
McVicker was charged with criminal mischief and related counts, as well as Allison Donohue, 23, of Wallingford, Pennsylvania; Josey Augustine, 31, of Royersford, Pennsylvania; and Dustin Callahan, 24, of Farmingdale, New Jersey.
Three others were also charged with counts including attempted arson, risking catastrophe, having an incendiary device and conspiracy. They were identified by police as Jacob Robotin, 25, of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania; Sydney Miller, 22, of Philadelphia; and 26-year-old Meredith Tooker, whose hometown was not provided, the Inquirer reported.
Police said Robotin had a green military-style backpack containing a glass jar with a fuse that emitted a “strong flammable odor,” WPVI reported.
Robotin’s bag also had a container packed with a white powdery substance labeled “firestarter,” police said.
Miller, meanwhile, was arrested in possession of bottles with unidentified liquids, including some that had a “chemical” smell, police said.
