Modtards who lock a lot of threADs can get called on it in modtardville.
To be clear, locking threads is a tool available to modtards to moderate their forums of the board. Doing so without reason is frowned upon.

Good stuff. I share your view on locking threads. I have had a thing or two to say about
Closed Threads myself as in general I am against censorship. Especially in a place like this. But my vantage point is certainly different.
To my perspective, there is a recent example of thread locking that was a bit cowardly for being preemptive. As you indicate, there are dozens of ways to handle 'the infection' a bad thread might be, and for sure an ounce of prevention is a pound of cure, but to just cut the whole limb off because of a paper cut? In this case it is sort of like a couple questionable exit pardons: the guy is out of office and its done.
