I wish that were true. Federal taxes MUST BE RAISED TO SAVE THE COUNTRY FROM UNSUSTAINABLE DEBT AND DEPRESSION.
Contrary to what everyone else on this board says [because they don't know the facts] Federal taxes haven't been this low for 60 years, and this is the sole reason why there's a colossal debt which is unsustainable.
Historically Federal taxes have collected about 19% of GDP. But because of all the tax cuts beginning in 1994 and continuing to today the Federal government has been collecting only about 15% of GDP in taxes since Bush took office in 2001.
This shortfall, primarily from the Bush cuts, is the sole reason why the debt has increased in scale over everything that happened until 2000.
The Federal government has historically spent about 20% of the GDP, but since 2009 because of increased spending associate with unemployment it's spending about 22%.
Yes taxes on the public have increased dramatically in the last thirty years....LOCAL TAXES! Not Federal income taxes, which have gone way down.
Most millionaires pay 15% or less.
Half the public pays ZERO......
btw...
In 1962 during Kennedy the Defense Dept. spent about half the Federal budget, and was about 10% of GDP.
