The Japanese who got the reparations were the surviving ones who were actually interned. So the $$ was paid to the ones who were victimized, NOT their remote descendants.

The truth is you can never "pay off" past wrongs and it is insane to even try.

Why are you "stuck in this country" for now? What's stopping you from emigrating? And "extract as much as" you can for yourself and Israel?

You have the attitude of a leech.
Certainly, they can make the claim they want the Holy Land. But a duly signed treaty abrogates their legitimacy. Additionally, should blacks want affirmative action to continue, it will be pointed out they no longer have an injury to redress, they have been made whole. There are enough honorable black people in this country that I think we can trust them. Loosen up your wallet and give African Americans what they have coming - I say 100 grand apiece!
What's stopping me from emigrating - I'm old and due to get retirement and healthcare paid for soon, and I don't want to live in the desert around 1 billion Muslims who want to bomb me everyday. Stuff like what happens in Boston happens to my people often in Israel. I could be paid to leave, though...somewhere in Latin America where prostitution is legal would be worth it.

I agree with ExNYer. JL, your attitude is what we are trying to repair in this country. And as far a reparations go, I think thousands of battle dead in the Civil War is quite enough.

And the Palestinians lived in the "Holy Land" for 2,000 years. It was their land.

What attitude, COG?
I don't deserve Social Security and Medicare after 40 years of paying taxes?

God gave us that land.

Whose god gave you that land? Did you ask Allah? or Buddha? or Krishna? I don't know of any god who gave anyone any real estate. Why should we listen to your god above all others?

I got news for you. God didn't give "your people" any land. And She never would.

Who is this "she" you believe in? I thought you were an atheist?

I never said I was an atheist. I am not a religionist. But that does not answer the question. Why should the world bow to your "god" at the expense of all others? How does a 4,000 year old document of dubious origin give your "people" a right to anything?

And where do reparations end? Are 21st century U.S. citizens to be held responsible for the descendents of slaves imported by the British and the French before 1783? Aren’t those nations similarly culpable; hence, responsible for providing some part of the reparations?

What then of the white inmates Britain sent as colonists to settle Georgia as a buffer against the Spanish? Or the Irish who were dispossessed by Britain's Enclosure Acts? Wouldn’t their descendants similarly be entitled to reparations?

Or what about the French Acadians forced by the British to relocate to Louisiana after the French and Indian War? Aren’t they too entitled to reparations?

How do you determine who is entitled to such reparations considering most slaves were not transported directly from Africa to North America but rather were trafficked through islands in the Caribbean before arriving in North America? Aren’t Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, etc., likewise culpable; hence, responsible for providing some part of the reparations?

Slavery and the international slave traded in this region of the world existed for nearly 200 years under the reign of France and Great Britain; whereas, the legal international slave trade was permitted for only 25 years and slavery existed for only eight decades under U.S. sovereignty. So why should the U.S. alone be held responsible for such reparations?

As a transient people: Bedouins, for the most part -- prior to being locked up for political purposes by Arab militants in refugee camps -- the claim that these so-called "Palestinians" "lived" in a "region" (not a state or a country) that is today called "Palestine" is to ignore that these Bedouins similarly "lived" in Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, etc., and they could have easily have continued to "live" in Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Syria, etc., as they always had were it not for Arab militants seeking to advance their political agenda.

Yes, if we could get some of the others responsible for black slaves in the US to fork over their share, that would be nice.

JL, what say you start in Africa, because that’s where Africans enslaved other Africans for the slave trade, and then you work your way north into Europe and then towards the west into the Caribbean. Once you have every other nation-state on board to pay reparations for the role their predecessors played in the slave trade, then you can rail against and pillory the U.S. for not paying reparations. Until then, the role the U.S. played in bringing about an end to that “peculiar institution” in Western societies should more than suffice; especially since slavery still proliferates in Africa.

BTW, you didn’t address why reparations wouldn’t also be due for the descendants of the French Acadians, the Irish and a good portion of the settlers who colonized Georgia.

$100,000 each?

If you aren't joking then you are insane. There are about 46 million blacks in the country. That puts the price tag at $4.6 trillion. All paid to people who have never been slaves and collected from people who have never held slaves.

We are already broke and cannot pay for SS or Medicare/ Obamacare. Where do we get that kind of money?

And what about people who are only 1/2 black, 1/4 black, or 1/16 black?

Colin Powell's family came to the US in the 1930s. if his son married a white woman and they had a child, how much money should Colin Powell's grandchild get?

How could you possibly trace who is and who is not descended from slaves? We cannot even accurately figure out what black farmers were discriminated against by the USDA in the 1980s. That is already a huge scam. You want to multiply it by a million.

Well, you said you were old. I guess that explains a lot. You won't be around long enough to deal with the consequences of your policies.

And you definitely think like a lawyer. Everything comes down to paying people off, regardless of actual fault.

You make very good points - but I don't think they will want to pay. As for the Acadians and other white people - well, they are white............enough said. You know ain't nobody got time to compensate white folk.

True - the United States is the only pocket that can pay, so they make the easiest target. Without a payoff, it is all just moralizing, no one is made whole.
To begin with Exner, you are very smart, and I substantially agree with your points. We shouldn't have to pay off blacks with affirmative action, food stamps, endless litigation with the USDA and every other agency or company they can scam money out of or get goodies from via protests, outrage, and morally objectionable bullshit. However, our opinion doesn't count. Black folk think they deserve it, and no one is either able to talk them out of it or stand up to them. So, yes, let's pay them off. But only if they descend from slaves on both sides of the family. Colin Powell's kids, being descended from Jamaicans, don't have shit coming to them.
However, we could deal in percentages. Say the mother is a thouroughbred black lady, but the Pa is from the Belgian Congo (ok Zaire) and immigrated in the 1950's. She gets 50% of the actual damages. President Obama's kids would obviously be in the 75% category. (Pa is half, Ma is full blooded, or close enough) Octoroons get 1/8 share.
So, we print another 2 trillion - what's the big deal? We will save it in the massive cutbacks from all the welfare and other shit which would become ineligible for blacks who accept the settlement. Hell, over time, it might net out as a profit. Plus, GM would sell so many Escalades, GM's stock would go through the roof, and the government could sell the rest of their stock for a massive profit, too.

Exactly HOW do you think welfare and other shit will stop?

If a black recipient of $100K blows the money and ends up poor again - or his children do - exactly how do you propose to prevent them from applying for welfare, food stamps, etc? If whites can still collect it, how do you stop minorities from applying for it.

I think you are full of shit and are making ridiculous proposals to stir up shit.

Octoroons? Really?

Reparations for all who are deserving, or reparations for none. No more discrimination! Who knows, ExNYer might wrangle a few dollars as an expatriated Irishman.
