Even the later V8s were really outrageous. Check out this start from the 2011 (I believe) Spanish GP. I think if you were standing there without hearing protection, you'd probably be deaf after. Video doesn't really do it justice. I've seen these starts close up and its indescribably loud. Its like nothing else I've ever heard.

Radically different, but still pretty fucking cool. Especially when the national World of Outlaws tour come to town. Been there, done that.

Shall we make a roadtrip? The Outlaws come around June/July. It’s not F1, but it’s a good show. Mebbe Chizzy Choo can get us pit passes.

The other thing that bends my mind are the pit stops in F1. They don't refuel anymore, so they are only changing the tires and maybe making minor adjustments. But, they change all 4 tires and send the car along in generally between 2-3 seconds. The fastest stop even was completed 1.82 seconds. To me, thats astonishing.

Schumacher's stint at Mercedes was an unmitigated disaster. He should have stayed retired.

Well that's how you used to do it. Heel and toe is a dying art. Hell, most people under 40 don't even know how to drive a car with a manual transmission. Manuals in very high performance cars don't really exist anymore.
I've been doing track days for decades and perfected my heel and toe skills. That's where my pseudonym here came from. LOL The car I do track days in now still has a 6 speed manual, but it will probably be the last one I will buy.
It sucks, but its better technology.
