I did not intend to say that I think anyone SHOULD leave. I am saying that anyone COULD leave. If I felt that the unfair treatment I receive is worse than the life that I have, if I hated America, I would leave. And, I believe strongly that others should consider all options.

Everyone experiences mistreatment, to varying degrees. But, many in America forget that those living in poverty in America are still living better than 80% of people worldwide. We who live in America have far more than we often realize.

For around $1800 US/year, that's less than $5 US/day, a person can live in a large house with servants in many parts of the world. Many in China make less than $500/yr, for a family of 3.

The point is that, while a person may struggle to survive in America, he/she can live well for less in some of the most beautiful places in the world. Many Americans are learning that their meager retirement is a fortune in places like Costa Rica.

So, if anyone hates America, why would he/she stay when that person can find happiness elsewhere. It is certainly a far better prospect than continuing in a life you hate. Why spend your life being miserable and making others miserable, when you can be happy and be the person that helps others be happy by sharing your happiness, while adding to their local economy? Everybody benefits from one person's joy.

Actually-- Costa Rica is a bad place to choose to expat to if your retirement savings are meager-- inflation and cost of goods there is horrid. You're much better off in Guatemala if your savings are a bit thin.

I love America-- but I absolutely have every intention of expatriating for retirement. From a financial standpoint, I'd be foolish not to.

I am thankful to men and women, like your grandfather, who fought to preserve your right to express yourself without fear of capture and torture, like is commonplace in socialist democratic republics, such as North Korea. Because of his selfless sacrifice, you can sleep soundly, knowing the government is not waiting to apprehend you and extort your family, as happens in Central America.
