I don't know who is lying or if anybody is lying but it doesn't add up IMO. If you average 2.5 MPH it takes 8.5 hours to walk 21 miles. Add in say an hour on public transportation plus 9 hours on the job. This equals 18.5 hours. That leaves 5.5 hours at home to eat, sleep and whatever. I don't buy it. The story I saw was he walks 21 miles each way. That makes it completely impossible. The pictures I saw show him walking in the snow so that adds a whole other element to this story. Believe it if you want. Fuck donate money if it makes you feel better but I think it is bullshit.

A healthy in shape guy can walk a lot faster than that
You can relatively easily walk 4 miles an hour
If you 're a strong legged guy and stride its even faster
When i used to walk everywhere i'd do 14 in around 3 hrs plus or minus without any physical stress
I'd have mental fantasies of dreaming I wished i could invent a machine that would zap me to the top of the dark furthest horizon I could see and then to the next one and so on as the trip was fairly hilly so it's very much more a mental stress thing than physical one
Whether his story is true or not I don't know, but there are a lot of people out there doing a lot of it everyday

I'll have to take your word for how fast you can walk. I googled it and the average was 2-3 miles per hour. I honestly don't know. Even if you average 4 mph that knocks it down by appx 3 hours. I still have my doubts the story is accurate.

I just looked up walking on Wikipedia
Says older folks walk in a pedestrian manner around 2.95 mph and younger people's pedestrian walk is around 3.3 mph and avg brisk walking is around 4
im old and have done 3 miles on my treadmill many times under 20 minutes, I have a competitive thing and I just get ever faster. I think the treadmill allows walking like that as opposed to walking outside as you hold on to the arms and pound away on the tread, at least I do
But no matter

I have some joint issues that keep me from running, but I walk a lot. 6+ mph on the street/road is awful fast, but for someone who walks that every day, 5 mph is very believable. And the return trip through an area like he describes: probably does add a couple tenths to your stride.

Budman , it says he leaves at 8am to begin his 2pm shift:
Robertson begins his trek at 8 a.m. to catch buses that take him to a Troy, Mich., mall before he walks 7 miles to Schain Mold & Engineering, where he begins his 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. shift. And according to his boss, Robertson has a perfect attendance record.
He then leaves at 10 pm
By the time he gets home, at 4 a.m., it's almost time to do it again.
So it can be done, you are probably having a hard time believing it because you wouldn't do it. I know I wouldn't!

I'm old and I'm happy to get in 4 miles in an hour.
I don't know why the guy even wants to live the way he does.
It would be far preferable just to get a shitty apartment near his job - he can't possibly have any other life. Of course, what kind of life do those of us who post on this political board have..lol...
