I would call it murder.
If a person can get the death penalty for killing a cop, would it not be any different if a cop murders a civilian.
Did not appear to be any imminent danger from what I saw.

Due process should play out ... on all of these publicized killings....

.... even the guy raping and executing the Preacher's Wife after a robbery.

I didn't watch the video ... did it show the dead guy pulled a knife?

Without reviewing ALL of the video (there is probably more than one), the reports and supplements, and the complete autopsy including toxicology it would be difficult to make a call, but .....

.. for political and social reasons prosecutors have a tendency to "overcharge."

I expressed my "concerns" regarding the cops "state of mind" when he emptied his weapon into the guy and apparently was in the process of "recharging" his weapon when other officers arrived (although that's a habit ... "recharging" with a fresh magazine and "jacking" a round into the chamber when "on empty"! so to CONCLUDE he was reloading to shoot the guy some more might be a stretch to assign that mental state from speculation as to why he was loading up again).

It seems that these media displays always have a "rest of the story" lacking, because the "rest of the story" doesn't play as well to catch everyone's attention.

Why did the guy have a knife out in the presence of a confrontation with an officer .... and what drew the officer's attention in the first place?

There is case law (including SCOTUS) that upholds a shooting (deadly force) by an officer when a person has assaulted the officer with a "deadly weapon" and the person is "fleeing" (TURNING AND WALKING/RUNNING AWAY) from the attempts by the officer to arrest the person for either the previous crime or the assault on the officer ... which is aggravated by not only the deadly weapon but also the FACT that he was an officer. One will see a theme through SCOTUS opinions regarding "officer safety" and "public safety" from an actor armed with a deadly weapon who has used it or threatened to use it.

The video is pretty damning and the testimony will go like this;

The shooter: I was afraid for my life so I fired my service weapon until I thought there was no longer a threat.

The other three cops on the scene: I did not fire my service weapon because I did not see a threat.

LLephantMan, are you really standing up for this murderous meglomaniac? Making a "lawyer's argument?" The cop in question discharged enough ordinance to kill a half dozen people, or more if he was a good shot.

Fry his ass!

Good thing everybody on the scene didn't have a gun, or this might have gotten messy.

Getting a "straight up answer" out of amateurs like you is easy.

Like .... "Zimmerman will be convicted of something for killing Martin" ..

Right, Mr. Self-Anointed legal eagle? Put your money where your mouth is.

Since it's "Chicago," I'm sure we'll hear Obaminable chiming in soon giving his little speech about .... err.... "gun control" ..... but I suspect he is rather busy right now on his royal knee pads mopping up on Putin to avoid WWIII.

This from the King of the Ebola scare!

I never said I was an legal eagle, I made a prediction like damn near every pundit did on TV. You seemed to quit making them after your idiotic prediction of Ebola spreading here did not come true. Now you have stooped so low as to be doing the work of ISIS and spreading fear of them to your fellow countrymen and women. Did they promise you 70 Virgins?

Typical response....blame the media. The media is trying to make money, it is up to the viewers to use common sense. From what I saw, the use of force was not justified.

I'm satisfied with LL's answer that he doesn't have enough information yet but officials tend to overcharge for political reasons.

I've got a simple question for you WTF:
Do you get tired of being a everyone's bitch?

The theme in 99.9% of these shootings is BLACK CRIMINAL confronts white cop. White cop kills black criminal. I don't give a rat's ass about any of these thugs.

I have also noticed that the only people who have a problem with cops are criminals. Please don't tell me some anecdotal story about a friend of a friend who had a bad experience with law enforcement. Fact is, it is a very very small percentage of law abiding citizens who have EVER had a bad experience with cops.

BTW - doctors, nurses and hospitals make judgement calls everyday that kill people. Pilots make errors in judgement that crash planes and kill people. They are not charged with murder and I don't think they should be charged with murder. Give the cops a fucking break!!
