The importance of NFL head coaches is extremely overrated IMO. Did Andy Reid finally figure out how to coach after being run out of Philly and getting hired by KC? Did Bill Belichik start in Cleveland not knowing how to coach, figured it out when he got to New England, then go senile and forget how to coach these last few years? Did Tomlin start out knowing how to coach, then just lose it for the last 5+ years?
Or maybe, just maybe, the times when these guys “knew how to coach” just coincidentally happened to correspond to times when they had Mahomes, Brady, and (prime years) Roethlisberger as their team’s starting QB. It’s amazing how much a franchise caliber QB teaches these guys about how to be a good coach, isn’t it?
FWIW, I do think Tomlin is a good coach. I also think it is time for him to go. He tries to build teams based on elite defense and an offense that just doesn’t eff it up. That is not the way the league is now, though. The teams that win championships do so based on efficient, if not explosive offenses. I have seen no evidence that Tomlin is even attempting to construct the team that way. Maybe it’s lack of talent on the offensive side of the ball holding them back, but considering that they spent much of their cap money on defense, that is not really surprising.

Good point. Pittsburgh sports fans are some of the whiniest, most entitled, most spoiled fans of all. It's embarrassing sometimes being at games.

I'd bet that you'd be hard pressed to find a sport where coaching is more important. Football is the ultimate team game. 25+ players on each team have a realistic chance to impact the game, and they stop the game every couple of seconds to come up with a play. On top of that, the 17 game schedule places a great importance on every game. I think after QB, coach is the second most important component. Obviously ownership and front office is very important too.

And some are dumb too. I was at the game last week. It was 3rd and 9 and a guy sitting behind me said "why are they lining up in the shot gun? Now everyone knows that they're going to pass." Uh, hello, everyone knows that they're going to pass because it's 3rd and 9. Big difference between that and 3rd or 4th and 1.

I just read that since 2017, the Steelers have the best winning percentage in the whole NFL in one score games at .676, so that's an indication of good coaching.

Tomlin hasn’t won a playoff game during that span. What do you call that?

Which is surely reflected in the poll.

A serial loser, regardless of a winning record.
Mike Tomlin is the Pittsburgh version of the War in Vietnam.
Lots of money spent, a resting place for many players, and ultimately pushing helicopters off the decks of aircraft carriers from fans fleeing the games to stay home even with season tickets, and ultimately a humiliating loss as all to show for it all.

He's the opposite of a serial loser.
Fan's fleeing games to stay home? I go to every game. I can assure you that fans are not fleeing games to stay home. For every fan who stays home because they're angry that the Steelers are against racism, there's another fan who will gladly buy their tickets.
You want it to be one way, but it's the other way.

Not bullshit. Sadly it's the truth. People here have said that they're mad that Coach Tomlin and the Steelers are against racism. Calling them the "kneelers," etc. Some of those type of people surely voted in that poll.
