My old GF is in Estacada...she has been away from her house for three days. Estacada is a small town...not a suburb. The fire has been less than 2 miles from her house for two days now. Not near Portland at all.

I had the training way back when I was in my 20's and in San Diego. Forest burns can travel at the speed and direction of the wind as long as there's material to burn. Every case of forest fire fighter death is due to wind changes causing insufficient time to evac. And that's pros, not homeowners. So 20 miles south of Portland could be less than 2 hours, depending on the wind
