Fred Thompson had the reputation of being lazy when he was in the Senate. He was also a fomer lobbyiest before he ran for the senate. Didn't think he made even a half-assed attempt to run the primaries.
Rudy wasn't serious either. I think he took his donors money and took an extended vacation in Florida at their expense. Didn't bother to campain in any of the cold states and instead focused only on Florida while staying in a $15,000 a night suite. He didn't do very well there even though he was there long before the other candidates.
I think Romney was the best leader the Republicans had to offer but they make a practice of eating their young and put ideology before qualifications.
