He lies all the time. He gives a great speech. Big deal. He is still the most corrupt and dishonest President in history, and is leading us toward toward big government statism.

Kiss your freedom good-bye if he gets his way.

There is no won or lost, except for politicians who got elected to yet another term of office. Statesmanship is dead, careers for politicians rule. The people lack the intellect to understand so they just watch the telly and pass time. This is a great time for those who are about to quit contributing to overfed government income and will finally be on the receiving end with money to spend on investments and toys. Not so good for the young folks who can look forward to big debts looming towards insurmountable as interest rates rise over worries of economic failure. Keep kicking the can down the road, it has worked in the past and will continue for awhile in the future. The fiscal cliff will become the abyss.

What. me worry?

I thought his inauguration speech reminded me of cotton candy.

From the outside it looked big and grandiose, like a big bundle of fluffy sugary tastiness. But the instant you start digging for substance, the speech just dissolves into a big, empty, sticky mess.

He never said a word about cutting spending or reforming entitlements.

Did the speech say anything about returning more liberty to individuals and the states ?

Did the speech say anything about cutting our debt ?

Did the speech say anything about freedom from government tyranny ?

Of course it was a panderfest! (Did anyone seriously expect anything else?)

1961 version: "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country."

2013 version: "Ask not what you can do for your country. (Unless, of course, you earn over $400K per year.) Ask what your country can do for you. And vote accordingly!"

Of course, a rather glaring problem with the speech is that it was a spirited defense of our metastasizing welfare/entitlement state without the slightest hint of how we should plan to finance it.

"Have all the free ice cream you want! The fat kid down the street will eat your broccoli for you."

it was a disjointed list of liberalism without a core and did not address the central issue of our time

it was gay marriage, something he was opposed to about one year or so ago

it was about "climate" change

it was about more entitlements because entitlements make us "free"

it was a screed about "together" we can do this or that, which is a euphemism for more big government

are you kidding?

it had no "therefore", it had merely a list, a list without a conclusion or direction or vision except more of the same

it was pitiful in the extreme

nothing at all about freedom and liberty and enterprise and jobs and our national shame, namely the excesses of government, and where we might find compromise to get out of our hole. he had no direction for us, why is he here then? oh how he destroys the spirit of our people.

I think the inevitable rise in interest rates will be the tipping point that will start the death spiral. We are currently rolling over an enormous debt at freakishly low interest rates. That's not going to last forever. When the rates up, it's game over.
