Even if parts of the government capitulate, the Russians have created some very bad enemies with their tactics. If the Russians are successful in occupying Ukraine, they will have years of revenge killings that could be up to the level of an insurgency.
As I stated a few weeks ago, I think Russia will be successful in occupying the country but will not be able to hold it. A ten year war? Very possible whether the government agrees or not.

this conflict if it does go into insurgency will have similarities with the "Troubles" of the Ireland/UK war.

This current conflict has actually been going on for years and years already. It's kind of like a long running ballet troupe. Sometimes it bubbles up and for whatever reason, the media reports on it. Think Crimea. Otherwise the ongoing struggles have been mostly ignored. This go round, we have mid-terms coming up, a dieing covid narrative and an opportunistic Putin who knows F Joe Biden can't even find his way off the stage or even know the difference between his own wife and sister.

Stalin said after his 1st wife died, he lost all interest in humanity. Then his 2nd wife killed herself.

What is Putin's problem ?

He’s pissed that the US installed a corrupt puppet government in a country on his border. We’d be the same if he took control of Canada or Mexico.
