Federal Taxes are supposed to be progressive

State and local are Regressive.

The poor pay taxes, just not the one's you care to count!

Not only that , I thought you guys liked it that people pay low taxes. You have your wish with the poor.

Now try and figure out how to pay for Defense spending with those low taxes.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a tax system that didn't promote class warfare? I know the politicians would have less to say, and industries wouldn't get their "perks". But still, wouldn't it be nice?

We do...it is called a regressive and progressive tax system.

Folks on the right like to forget about the regressive tax of the state and local governments!

Simply using the terms "progressive" and "regressive" indicate a class warfare component. Again, you prove your ignorance, WDF.

And folks on the left like to forget about the fact that our tax system is far more progressive than that of a typical European social democracy. This chart is a real eye-opener for people who think the affluent pay for most of Europe's welfare state. It compares the tax incidence across the income distribution in the U.S. vs. France:

Note that it represents all taxation (state, local, sales, payroll, etc.).

The simple fact is that the tax system of the U.S. is far more progessive than that of other developed nations, but at lower rates across the income strata -- especially for households that are not well off.

The top ten percent carry seventy percent of the tax burden. How much do you want them to carry? How much is enough? The bottom fifty percent only pay two percent. Is that too much? Should they pay nothing?

Are these questions beyond your understanding?

If those six people broke no law in doing so, doesn't that say more about the law, than them? Why would you condemn them for following the law?

I read a study where it showed that minus the super wealthy and super poor we all pay around a 40% marginial rate in the US. Can not find it at the moment.
