Home schooled son of a minister? Wonder who decided he wouldn't wrestle her?
As someone said it truly is no win for the kid.

I, for one, don't understand why Iowa has mixed wrestling competition at all. Of all the sports played in high school, to me wrestling is about the most inappropriate one for mixed boy-girl competition. As Olivia points out, even if the girl is physically well-matched to the boy, there are still all the mental ramifications, as well s the possibility of injury. I sure wouldn't let my teen-age daughter wrestle in mixed competition. This appears to be another example, like the current discussion of opening up all combat arms (including infantry and armor) to women, of diversity and PC obliterating common sense and logic.
I commend the boy for sticking to his principles, and the girls and their families for their constructive attitudes.

Ah me!!! The first fact is wrestling should only have same sex matches. The reasons for this are well docomented on this forum.
The second fact is the so called "News Media" should have simply reported the results of the matches.
I respect the man's decision.

Of course, that would be YOUR idea of common sense and logic.
Why is it that so many people on this board just assume that the entire world thinks the same way they do?
Cheers,
Mazo.

I said stupid because he worked hard to try to accomplish something he apparently thought was worth while and then threw it all away on some "principles" dictated to him by an imaginary angry man in the sky. If you're not willing to play by the rules from the get go, why compete. Surely it wasn't an unforeseen surprise to him that females were allowed to compete? Why waste the time if there is some probability that at some point, you're going to refuse to compete. Pick another sport.
As for harming a woman, in a case where the other party consents, I don't see any difference between a male participant and a female one. I wouldn't want to harm either one so I wouldn't wrestle. But it's not like a mugging or domestic violence. She's agreeing to the physical contact. You can certainly question the wisdom of having girls wrestle with boys (and I certainly find that judgment highly questionable, but if you're going to play, you play to win.

What the hell Captain! You turning gay on me? You telling me you'd rather wrestle a guy than a girl? All I ever wrestle with is women....preferably butt beauties nakid ones in the 110 pound weight class!

What if on principles he would not wrestle a black or a Jew? Would that be stupid or not?

Nah, it's not that.
WTF, I'm just not that good at wrestling women.
Over the weekend I was body slammed by a naked woman, even though I had a big weight advantage (about 190-115).

Like the reporter who never played sports calling out Roger Maris saying the pressure got to him.
TTH, is anyone ever not considered stupid by you if you don't agree?
If this kid feels that it would be inappropriate then good for him for sticking to some form of moral compass. Lord knows more athletes with some sort of morals wouldn't be a bad thing.

Right! You'd think our weight advantage would work in our favor but the girl always winds up on top of me too.
Somebody needs to tell that Iowa wrestler that there is no shame in losing a wrestling match with a woman....its the journey not the destination!

If he would not wrestle a black person or a Jewish person , what would you say about his moral compass?
Anybody?
I'm just asking, not saying good or bad, just asking.

Well that kid is stupid in my opinion. I don't buy the whole "its against my religious values" either. This reeks with chauvinism. Women spar with men in all sorts of sports including martial arts. She looked completely matched with this boy. Too say that it is a loose loose for the boy is ridiculous. He had an opportunity to wrestle her and possibly win, and he used his religion as an excuse for an out. I have a friend who is a martial artist and boxer. She has won many tournaments and has the trophies and pictures to show for it over the years. I had an opportunity to watch her box the ears off a guy in mixed martial arts / boxing. There are many women who are very capable of competing in these types of sports with men.
Edit: Women who get into these sports and compete with men know what they are getting into. Wrestling is not sexual regardless of hand placement for positioning. What is next? A guy saying he won't wrestle with a gay guy? Because of his "religion".. lmfao What a cop out.
