If its still there I always liked Brother in Laws bbq on the east side of Houston.
I thought The Tin Roof BBQ in atascocita was pretty good.
Carl's BBQ isn't too shabby IMO over here on 290 close to huffmeister.

I'll save my lecture on "best"
For these types of dicussion....there is no such thing as "best"
"Best" time in the 100 meter dash - okay.
"Best" beer? ...bbq?.....bbbjnqns?....no... too many other variables.
But here are three:
Closes at 4:00...not sure about weekends. But I find this bbq much like I craft at home. Awesome spare ribs and what I call beef short ribs. I can't remember if I've eaten brisket there...not sure why I would.

This place is surprisingly good...especially for location and they are open fairly late IIRC.

This place is "okay" but has pretty damn good beef ribs. Beef ribs are hard to find. Good ones even harder. They have unique sides there also if you don't like the potato salad from a 5 gal bucket.

Thelma's which used to be near Scott and Pease. Best imo without a doubt. Anyone know where she moved to?

Man the first part of your post holds up so true, I hate every place you mentioned lol. Brisket house can't cook brisket, they don't even use a real pit. Stockyard is owned by a Arab guy only thing good is the baked potato with chopped beef. I've had peats sausage only found it to be tasteless. I think they are like German or something so I expected more out of the sausage.

Ohh miss Thelma. She is no more and has completly closed down. I've been looking and holding out hope but I don't think she's coming back. Some new guy called Abdel took over her spot to make his fucked up version of BBQ. No pork as he is Muslim. Don't think that will work in his location. Hell Thelma ran out of ribs all the time. Don't waste time checking him out, everything he cooks is dry as hell.

Waller County Line BBQ at the Shell gas station in Waller has some of the best BBQ in Texas. The loaded baked potatoes are the best I have ever had.

I like Larry's barbecue buffet on 290 and Fairybanks N. Houston. I like to be able to choose my own food and get as much as I want to get.
I think Rudy's moist brisket is very good.
There's a place called Midway down the street from Katy high school that makes some really good barbecue.
I agree with Hinze's in Wharton being very good.
There's also Brian's barbecue in Clute.
For those who really love barbecue, check out this link. http://houbbq.com/
