Sir, are you familiar with the first suborbital launch by the U.S. of a manned "space craft"? It was basically a controlled launch with a pre-set trajectory that put the "space craft" into a path that landed within so many kilometers from an intended landing zone.

Thirty plus years ago I saw a science fair project by a Kentucky 11th grader who built a camera/photo rocket with an ejection pod with a parachute attached to softly land the camera with pictures in it of a chase rocket he also built to launch after the primary rocket, which took pictures of the chase rocket being launched and approaching the ass-end of the primary rocket. It took 2nd place in Kentucky that year. 11th grader! And in those days there were no KITS for such a project!

For years! NK has been sharing knowledge with Iran (and other countries). The hype/bullshit is just that. So "we" won't have to do anything about it.

caveat: the quality of their missile tech isn't that great. they appear to have quality control problems. they have a lot of missile failures at launch.

the bottle rocket analogy is poor. they were at that point testing to see how far the missile can go by shooting straight up.

they were going to shoot this particular missile near Guam until they were talked out of doing it by china.

they have shot few previous models over japan.

they certainly have the capability to control the direction of their rocket. the targeting ability is going to be as just as bad as the 1950's - 1960's icbms were.

They do fire them fairly vertical and they aren’t sophisticated enough yet to accurately guide them. Which makes them fairly useless as a military weapon. Many of their missiles pinwheeled into the ocean upon re entry. You have to control that angle.

Their latest missle that was tested is thought to employ a gimbal system which is a modern way to guide missles. They never used it before.

They can’t effectively guide them yet Dilbert. Did you read the links or do I have to paste some portions of it for you? My analogy to bottle rocks was meant to have some humor in it. But you shoot them straight up and really don’t control where they land. They might calculate a general area. Just like a bottle rocket. You light the fuse, it shoots straight up, and it lands. Unguided. Our missles are guided. They’re pretty precise too. We’ve been at it for over 50yrs. We have GPS, advanced gimbal systems to guide them. The last missle they launched, the Hwasong15, is believed to have a gimbal system. It would be the first one. Nobody knows for sure. To suggest North Korean ICBMs are as sophisticated as ours is a faulty comparison. NoKo is closer to bottle rockets.
