I strongly prefer the term "lady(ies)." Occasionally, I may use "provider." Rarely I use "escort." When talking to a lady, I tend to use her name.

Some of the ladies prefer the term "courtesan," I assume due to the historical context of the term.

However, the term "hooker" has its basis in US history, and if you're relying on history, US history is more specific than the era of European courtesans.

When anyone asks me what my occupation is I always tell them " Pleasure Provider"..

Personally being called a Hooker doesn't bother me, it is what it is, there's no need to sugarcoat it...

I like the term courtesan. It is more seductive in my opinion.

"Courtesan" isn't just a synonym for "hooker", though. A courtesan has to be educated, highly skilled and able to provide company rather than simply sex. All courtesans are prostitutes, but not all prostitutes are courtesans.

True, that. But my understanding is that a traditional courtesan is monogamous as well. Even if not monogamous, you could certainly count her sex partners on one hand.

So pretty much any provider with a website by definition wouldn't be a courtesan.

The term Hooker is not really derogatory. It's origion is from the Civil War, when General Hooker made it be known that he would look the other way when women came into his camp to 'service" his men. The Ladies who provided this service came to be called "hookers", not as a derogatory term, but as women who were providing a valuable service to the fighting men who had liitle else to look forward too.

But of course, if you do not like it, that is your choice. As a "hobbyist", I never liked the term "john", or "trick', but whether I like it or not, that is what I am.

Surely it's always best to start with terms of maximum respect (e.g. 'ladies') and go from there as the vibe dictates. If someone like Tiffany is turned on by nastier language, I'd be happy to comply. But reardless of language or activity BCD, basic respect can never be discarded.

Interesting discussion . . . I explored this topic with a woman friend in the business and she basically concluded that she didn't care what I called her, just that I call her again . . . Worked for me!

As the old joke goes:

A well dressed man walks up to the best looking girl in the club and ask, "would you sleep with me for $10,000". She says, "sure".

He then says, "how about $10". She looks at him with an indignant stare and says, "what do you think I am".

He replies, "we have already established that. We are now just negotiating price".

When I began in the hobby 18 months ago I found the term provider amusing since it is also used in the health care industry. The term provider there refers to the treating physician, nurse practitioner or physician's assistant. Today I think of a provider in our world in much the same way. The big difference is that these services aren't covered by my health care plan.

The thread was concerning respect.

I'm not sure where you read that, but it definitely isn't the case; many well-known courtesans from history (for example, the Greek hetaerae) had as many customers as any modern escort. A courtesan is defined by quality, not quantity.
