Everyone has to get the vaccine for polio and smallpox. Why would you not want to get the vaccine for CoVid? If there were no vaccine and 300 million people in the USA got infected you would have 6 million deaths. That's using Lev17's death rate of 2%.

The polio vaccine was created in the 1950s with mass inoculations beginning around 1954. It’s effectiveness was around 60-70 percent. By August 1955 4 million shots had been administered in the US with approximately the first year. With mass inoculations, the rate of infection dropped to less than a 1/3 by the end of 1955, about a year after vaccines were first administered. Shortly after it was nearly eliminated in practical terms in the US.
There was no mass anti-vax movement. There was no mass misinformation campaign claiming among other things: the vaccine causes sterility through rewriting your DNA, as many people die from the vaccine as Covid, the vaccine contains little octopi, the vaccine has microchips so you can tracked or marked by the devil, and other outright crazy shot that even people on this forum believe.
There was no need for a mandate because people were lining up to get the vaccine since they weren’t mislead into believing that polio was a hoax, or was going to go away, or was a plot to bring down Trump. Polio wasn’t politicized and people voluntarily took the vaccine without “decades” of scientific data because it was the right thing to do, not only for their own health but for the health of their neighbors.
Too bad in the current environment people have made the vaccine a point of political contention. Or better yet, why use facts when opinions are so much better, along with a little misinformation such as decades of scientific data supporting people getting the polio vaccine. But having a real discussion is a little much for this forum I suppose.
