Regardless of how you feel about the wall, I don't like the precedent the "national emergency" sets. It's obvious the congress (which controls the money) doesn't want to fund a border wall. I don't think the president should have the ability to do an end run around congress to get what he wants.


Republicans shit bricks when Obama did something similar on DACA but they are ok with Trump stealing money away from other programs to fund a border wall. The height of hypocrisy.

Truman tried to federalize the steel industry, using his "powers and authorities" granted under the constitution.

The courts said no.

We shall see what happens but I doubt it will fly on the courts.

The congress controls the money and there are rules about how the money, Trump has access to, can be used.

Emergencies are immediate. This problem has existed for years and has improved significantly.


If when the problem first began, the president at that time wanted action, he might have been able to get congress to back a wall. It's too late now.
