it's insulting to minorities to try to make a case that minorities can't function in modern society when clearly they do, every day.

You just made the case that people having trouble opening a bank account, getting a job , renting or owning a home will also not be able to vote.

99.9999 percent of America already has photo id. can't wait for you to explain how "evil republicans" and their "Jim Crow" voting laws in Georgia resulted in record turnout.

The good news for WTF, is that real soon, non citizens will be able to vote in Federal elections making the need for an ID to vote, obsolete. Hell, I suspect some enterprising travel agency will set up a deal so that you can fly to America for the day, vote and then return home. Won't that be great for America? EVERYBODY GETS TO VOTE!!!!!

I agree. Since trump has called for suspension of the Constitution, all trumpys should carry ID identifying them as such and keep them from participating in the voting they hate/fraudulently deny.
Let's make a deal with Canada to keep them all above the 80 degree latitude line.

For the purposdes of this discussion, pleasse, let us limit the topic to voting in person. Voting by mail is a topic for another thread.
Why is it not a good idea to require that a voter present documents that certify that they are who they say they are when voting in perdon?

Presenting a valid state issued ID would be the State roving that you are eligible to vote.
Both my father and grandmother had naturalization papers that proved them to be citizens eligible to vote.
I presented a birth certificate when first applying for a driver's license which established my citizenship and showed that I was not yet eligible to vote but would be in a few years.
There are other ways to qualify for a state-issued ID. The county headquarters of the political party of your choice will no doubt help you with these matters if you need help.

And anyway, the question in the OP is why it is a bad idea to have someone prove that they are who they say they are when voting?
We seem to have gotten tied up in the mechanics and politics of it all. Getting a valid ID is not rocket science and there are people who will facilitate the process for those who can't get it done alone.
So then: Why is it a bad idea to require positive, valid identification when voting?

As Joe Biden would say "Come on man". We all know the answer to that question don't we? Because this will hurt the Democrat's chances of winning elections if we follow common sense, legally binding ( in so many other ways ) rules to make sure only valid citizens of this country vote which is the opposite of what the Progressive wing of the Democrat party wants.

So of you do not have a clue as to wtf you're talking about.
And no one has answered why I should be denied the right to vote if I'm an American citizen....who happens not to have a valid ID.

Nicks, a 21-year-old international studies major at the historically Black college, had been told months earlier by fellow students about a law that does not allow students from private colleges and universities in the state to use their school ID as identification to vote — a rule she believed would prevent her from casting a ballot in Georgia.
As a result, she wasn’t able to vote for her preferred candidate, Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock, in November, or in next week’s runoff election either.
Her confusion emanated from a 16-year-old provision in Georgia voting law in which only IDs from state schools, not private schools, are considered an acceptable form of voter ID.
It’s a provision that voting rights experts say continues to confuse voters — especially college students or others who already face barriers — and results in many of them voting elsewhere or not at all. Furthermore, they argue it has a disproportionate impact on student voters of color, because seven out of 10 of Georgia’s historically Black colleges and universities are private institutions.

a 21 year old who only has a student id? i don't buy it. where did that come from?
not even a driver's license at 21? what's wrong here is the person not the system.
What do I need to bring?
You will need to show photo ID to vote in Georgia.
Acceptable forms include: - any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free ID card issued by your county registrar's office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS)
- Georgia driver's license, even if expired
- valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the US Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this state
- valid US passport ID
- valid US military photo ID containing a photograph of the voter
- student photo ID card issued by a Georgia public college, university, or technical school
- valid tribal photo ID containing a photograph of the voter
Voters without ID: If you are unable to provide ID, you will be able to vote a provisional ballot. You will need to provide a copy of your ID within three days after the election to your County Board of Elections and Registration. As long as you do so, your provisional ballot will be counted, as long as you are otherwise eligible to vote.

So, you are 21 years old and you are told that the school ID you have is not on the approved list. OMG! What on earth to do. Well, you could get the information on what you need just like WK did and get one of those ID's, I mean if you really want to vote and your objective is not to whine and moan how unfair it is to be Black when the White kid has the same problem or was the White kid born with one of those ID's cause yeah, that would be a problem but this, this is just stupid and everybody knows it, even Democrats know it but what's that old saying "never let a crisis go to waste", because that is exactly what is going on here, nothing more, nothing less.

exactly. if this person wanted to vote she could have googled it and in a milligoogle of internet time all she needed to know would be available. does this woman not even have a birth certificate to use for a GA State id?
the next excuse will be because "white supremacy" has made studying at a HBCU college so difficult this poor woman must study 24x7 and thus had no free time to get a proper id to vote.

When my Mom got so she couldn't drive and didn't need her drivers license renewed it was easy to change it to an id instead.
