It's sort of like the democrats beating their chests about minorities and the poor, they don't want to actually solve any of the problems because they then have no talking points.
Neither party has fundamentally changed, the GOP's first president used the federal government to trample on the states. By his actions the dems could no longer buy people. A hundred years later LBJ figured out a way to not only buy people again, but to do it with other people's money!
