Generally I am not a thrill spender. Except when it comes to a fine single malt.
Nothing nicer then sitting down with a fine beverage , a good read.... and a crackling fire in the fireplace ( A real, genuine, original fireplace, the kind you can take a stick at and poke.)

Also check out the Albuquerque balloon fiesta--first weekend of October through the second weekend (9 days). Amazing, and a lot of opportunities for rides.

My passion is riding motorcycles. I've made it to most of the states West of the Mississippi. I would like to ride to all four corners of the US and around the Great Lakes. It may not be as expensive or extravagant as some of the other things mentioned here, but the freedom of riding, the solitude (even when riding with 3 or 4 others) is spectacular, the smells (both good and bad) are spectacular and the scenery that is overseen when flying or even in a car is sometimes overwhelming.

That is true. It is not a cheap hobby, and the pilots are generally a pretty close knit group. If you find a place that has some active crews they are almost always in need of more chase crew members. In exchange for some volunteer work on a crew you can get an occasional flight, but more that that you can get an idea if that lifestyle is for you or not. It you think it might be, there are typically pilots willing to share their knowledge and give you some of the basic training. It you still have the itch they can connect you with trainers. Most areas that have some open spaces to launch & recover--mostly to recover--will have at least some active balloonists.

I've been known to indulge in a fine bottle of cognac or champagne to share with friends... as well as in fine lingerie which I may also share with a few select friends

I don't consider myself deprived, but my other hobbies are not that extravagant. Hiking, diving, post-grad degrees... lol.

I had an ex girlfriend who couldn't seem to make it a month without presenting me with an $800 spa bill. I didn't see it as unusual. I've watched my mother habitually drop $500 on just hair. I consider those things hobbies, but apparently some women consider them lifestyle choices. I suppose I consider the international flights I have to purchase to see any of my family members as a lifestyle choice.
