Damn that brings back memories. Technology has made the hobby a better place.

Yellow pages and Observer type papers were so hit and miss. There were a few occasions when I had to politely tip a lady to go away.

It was always such a rush waiting in the hotel room and see what showed up and if you were going to have a good time.

Growing up, the greensheet ads were porn and I couldn't believe that in the phone book, there was a listing for "sex", "strip" came shortly after.

Then I placed ads in the Observer, it was a trip seeing myself in paper format.

I entered the hobby as the transition from print to online was occurring. Krissi-with-an-i and Nikky were both running ads in the Observer and posting in alt.sex.prostitution (you young 'uns look up Usenet), but each was using a different name in each medium. That way, they explained to me, they could tell which medium was generating the most clients. It wasn't long after that that Diana of Dallas entered the scene with her website and, IIRC, Chelsea was doing some live videos at the blazing speed of 2,400 bps.

If you had a 2400 baud modem you were in high cotton. The first one I owned was 1200 baud, though I used an older acoustic coupled 300 baud one in a library before that!!

When on the road in the 80s I used the yellow pages. The agency would have girls call until you found one you liked. Often the girl would call back on her own and cut a private deal. Since there was no agency fee, it was very affordable.
One of my best stories was Oklahoma City. It was actually girl answering the phone calls. I guess they were short of girls. That was a great time!
