I have read through this thread a few times. What they did to you seems very intentional. I suspect they planned to cause as much harm as they could for some unknown reason. I hope they were not invited to the b-day party. Your supporting friends here would not mix well with that breed.

When I encounter the negative people, I like to think that I am doing most everything right. They are the ones that have issues to work through. I am not better than others, just on a wiser and more productive path.

Ginger, I just today saw your post and can definitely believe these so-called friends would screw you over. Shows you what their mindset is, huh. It happens all the time but be happy that you made the effort to help and did the right thing.
Just because they abused it don't let it take away from the nice thing you tried to do.
Its their loss for losing your respect for them and nothing more than a monetary loss for you..what they lost is much greater and can never be regained again.

Just for the record this wasn't me. I had someone ask me if it was me. I think that behavior is disgusting and I would never do that to someone. I have my own home, my children are well behaved, and I would never do that to someone's home.
