There is no response needed on this one. You were wrong. When he said this is my wife your response should have been simply hey how are you doing. My Dad worked around construction machinery everyday and never lost a finger but he understood safety precautions. Same thing as saying, I can't wear leather gloves at work or any type of machinery will rip my entire hand off,thick leather is very strong.
