Putting aside all of the extremist commentary, there is a reality check here.

One of those shooters is a nut case who never should have been allowed near a firearm. Most likely, the one from yesterday will turn out the same……and the laxity of gun regulation allows any whack job to get firearms.

There needs to be sanity restored to our society. We need to institute sensible laws and regulations that protect our society and allow for following actual constitutional rights. Allowing any idiot to own a gun is not the answer to this particular problem. There is a solution if we stop the extremism from both sides.

We have a lot of examples of what is wrong with us as a country in this thread. We all need to do better than all of this. This extreme political rhetoric of all kinds need to come to an end.

You make some very solid points elg. The extreme rhetoric is the primary cause of the hate and division we currently have in our country. It needs to come to an immediate halt today. We’re all Americans and there is no place for this type of violence. Regardless of political party, etc. Just the night before, Joe’s speech was full of hateful rhetoric. It was nauseating.

Anyone who finds this assassination attempt to be funny, or to even joke about is repulsive. I may not like Joe’s politics, but I sure as hell don’t wish him dead or to be assassinated. To think that this assassination attempt, if it were successful, would have made our country better, you might want to call your fucking therapist. We could very easily be having quite a different discussion today, and if that was the case, God only knows what would happen in the coming days. Yesterday’s rally and the attempt to kill a former President was a very sad day for everyone.
