Great advice on here. I'm not an attorney by training, but I've worked in real estate finance, and it is an ugly mess.

Lease agreements are typically designed to be written loosely when covering livability standards that merit a breach of contract. Landlord knows exactly how time consuming and difficult the legal recourse route will take. Chances are you aren't their first, and may not blink at the threat of getting legal counsel.

Tony is spot on with being the squeaky wheel. If their business survives on reputation, do anything you can to tarnish that.

I wish you the best of luck, Maggie.

It probably was not a good idea to post this on a hooker site, if she decided to take the advise of social media blasting, let's remember it goes both ways if the lanlord becomes aware of this thread.

People! Eccie is not a internet search engine, try leaving this site for RW issues/advise, you wouldn't go on a home building site/thread looking for a bbbj gagging session? Just my .2 cents

I'm not going to take the advice of calling news stations and posting on Yelp and blasting social media. While I appreciate the enthusiastic advice, it's completely ridiculous and not even in my fundamental thought process to ever do such a thing. It's patently ludicrous :-)
And FYI - because my original post indicated I'd be happy to trade for representation from a qualified individual - it does have a place here.
And as I have understood from the description of this category "If it's NOT hobby-related, then you're in the right place!" - I don't think this topic is inappropriate.
I can't think of one other place where there are 10,000 members from all walks of life, that may offer helpful advice.

And thanks for your concern about my situation - but surely I'm not the only tenant in the 7 million strong metroplex to complain of a pest issue to a property manager..ya know.. August in Texas and all.

Re: social media. Don't!

Or at least don't until you know beyond a reasonable doubt you're not going to have to hire a lawyer. Nothing worse than the client telling half the story, getting details wrong, putting things out of sequence, or otherwise fucking up a perfectly good lawsuit by talking about it before they talk to a lawyer.

Maggie, you could start by printing out Shea's URL list and showing it to the landlord. If he still refuses your requests, follow up with the URL contacts.
