The most offensive part is his assumption that all Americans would use skin shade as a determining factor with their vote. Just because he views people through the prism of skin color and dialect, it doesn't mean I do.

Projecting?! Speculation! Reid was trying to determine Obama's chances of getting elected. That meant trying to figure out how OTHER PEOPLE were going to vote. That meant he had to consider how OTHER PEOPLE viewed Obama. Biden and Reid were both inarticulate but both were correct about Obama's chances.
And did none of you notice the timing of this book release? C'mon. Health care reform bill...January...Time Magazine author. It doesn't seem strange to any of you that a conservative author would hold onto a 2006 quote until January 2010?

The timing? The author timed it to make the maximum amount of money! Presumably he was working for Time or some other publication while doing the interviews...and hid this information from his own editors, to put in his own book. So, he stole the money shot quotes from his employer...for his own enrichment...not because of healthcare.

But lets not forget the original question. I say no...anybody say yes?

Sure, if a Republican had said the exact same thing that Reid said then the Dems and MSNBC would be playing politics with it. Just like the Republicans and Fox are doing now.

But in the end, when people look at WHAT has been said rather than what party the person belongs to, the intent of the remark will be the focus.

You've just got to get past the party affiliation outrage first.

You took my statement the wrong way. I meant that no politician plays fair (the quotes, the book, the mud slinging). My devil comment just meant that go with the devil you know, meaning go with the party you know...the politician you know...the facts you know.... I wasn't suggesting that you stick with anything except what YOU know and believe in.

The beauty about living in the US is that not everyone is going to agree on everything. Sometimes its best to agree to disagree. Discussions on politics always gets mean and people start throwing insults.

As for the bumpersticker philosophy....I like my saying and that's all that matters. >shrugs<

I ran into JG on ASPD Poli Forums. Did not know he was a KC guy. The interchanges he shared in there showed him to be well verse and capable and frankly a great sense of justice to go along with all that. He reminds me of Jackie of Sin. with out the breasts. Sharp, detail oriented, complex and yet able to share with complete explicity. If we agreed or disagree, each point he made was well documented, and spoken.

Reminds me of a poster on ASPD with the same grasp and comprehension. That gentleman dissappeared a few months later. I always wonder about him and as a few mod questions.

If one person reads whats being discussed here and says "wow I did not know that" then the conversation is worth having. The conversation is less about politics and more about the double standard in our media.

I would disagree that people never change parties (philosophies). I cite the democrat Ronald Reagan who became a great Republican president. It takes time for someone to realize that maybe what they have supported is not what they really believe. Over and over again polls show that Black Americans have conservative values but still they vote for liberal democrats over 90% of the time???
Part of it is recognizing the truth about yourself instead relying on your youthful ideals. Look at the comedian Dennis Miller. A liberal on SNL but time and having children made him realize that he wanted protection from international bad guys, the freedom to raise his kids his way, and the right to say what he wanted without some moderator looking over his shoulder. Far cry from those days on NBC.
Winston Churchill once said those who were not liberal in their youth have no heart and those who are not conservative as they age have no brain. Some of us grow up faster than others and others never really grow up. I started a class this week in KU and some politics was inadvertently discussed. One student come up after class and said that he did not like to hear about politics. It made him uneasy and hoped that the instructor would curtail such discussions in the future. You know if you don't bring out your beliefs for a good beating you'll never have good strong beliefs. I hope that young man is not too disappointed.

And, PS - I've never had anything less than a stellar review in my entire career, but I still only have ONE review in any venue I know of and I continue to pursue its removal . . . does a lack of reviews hurt MY business? No - not at all . . Might a lack of reviews hinder a newer lady? Certainly. Even though I have not a single poor review, I still feel strongly enough in MY specific circumstance to have them removed for my peace of mind . . . further, no client I have would ever leave a review, I wouldn't see them again, and that would break their heart . . .
