Why aren't officers on base armed? If we trust them to defend the country with incredibly lethal weaponry, why not let them display their sidearms on base?
You should go to Israel and see all the guns people carry around, everywhere, including teachers!
We don't have these kind of massacres over there, BTW.

I loved seeing hot young, tanned teachers with M1 carbines.

Because the base commanders do not think it prudent. Take it up with the military.

what has it taken to stop murderous rampages be it in cafeterias, schools, movie theatres, navy shipyards, congresswomen's rallies or ft hood?.
and your worthless stabs at bitter gibes or meaningless taunts, well they aren't beneath you, they are you

All they have to do is give the order for people to not use their guns inappropriately!!
Col. Jessep: Have you ever spent time in an infantry unit, son?
Kaffee: No sir.
Col. Jessep: Ever served in a forward area?
Kaffee: No sir.
Col. Jessep: Ever put your life in another man's hands, ask him to put his life in yours?
Kaffee: No sir.
Col. Jessep: We follow orders, son. We follow orders or people die. It's that simple. Are we clear?
Kaffee: Yes sir.
Col. Jessep: Are we clear?
Kaffee: Crystal.

What we don't know is how many lives have been SAVED by instituting gun free zones. I was in the army years ago and the LAST thing I would have wanted to see was allowing soldiers to have possession of guns at all times. Lt. General Miley, who is responsible for all doings at Ft. Hood, has made it perfectly clear that he does not support soldiers carrying handguns unless authorized to do so. I think he understands the circumstances a little better than you or I do.
Second, I'd be willing to bet that a person could walk into a gun show where everyone might be carrying a handgun and kill/wound just as many people as Ivan Lopez did at Ft. Hood before someone could kill him.

these things are a matter of opinion and whether or not gun free zones help or hurt is opinion based, all that is known are how the rampages are stopped
and so we are left to infer what we may.
and all that I know is I would rather be armed or have others armed near me, than no one but the perp armed, if I were caught up in such a circumstance

I would certainly agree with that statement but sometimes people have to surrender what they believe is their "right" in order to better protect the good of the majority. The people who are charged with the responsibility of protecting U.S. army bases such as Ft. Hood have determined that allowing the average soldier to carry handguns will have more of a negative impact than not allowing them to do so. Even after both tragedies at Ft. Hood, they firmly stand behind that rule.

You have no Solution's just posting slogans. Unless you are in a combat mode there is no reason to be armed. Nothing like a fire fight in a PX or movie theater 'eh?

Do you really believe that? A three star general...he has a driver, his own vehicle, and I would bet that today that driver has a weapon in that vehicle. What does a three star know about a corporal who has to protect his, or her, family from someone who decides that soldiers need shooting after all according to Senator Hillary Clinton, that's what they signed up for.
A military base is like a medium sized city. They have houses, parks, community centers, shopping, and work. We have seen the SCOTUS overturn anti gun laws in Washington DC, Chicago, and New York City. Maybe we should set our sights lower. Imagine a city where almost everyone is actually a marksman with a weapon and is allowed to carry.

Going with your line of logic; why don't we just make it against the law to shoot people in theaters, PXs, and gun free zones. We could put a real harsh penalty on them that may be carried in out in a couple of decades (Hasan is still breathing right?). Then we don't even have to arm the police. The law will protect them just like in England. Except in England people are starting to demand the right to protect themselves with weapons and the police started carrying weapons years ago.
