Yes, I understand the Senate is a per state allotment. But I would still argue that when originally developed there were common interests within most the individual states. Some were religious, some were economic. But I do not believe you had the disparity within any one state that you have in CA, NY, or FL now.

Additionally, because the population disparity has gotten so large (CA vs WY), I think it is distorting the original balance. If some of the more populous and diverse states did split it would reduce the likelihood of a few states dominating everything. That would be in the congress, but even more in the electoral college where in essence no one cares about the "3 electoral vote" states. How many people realize that in the "hanging chad" election Florida was NOT the last state decided, but rather New Mexico, whose meaningless three E.V.s were written off weeks before?

Having said all that the practical reality of the political food fight will almost certainly ensure that such a "re-stating" will never happen.

Once again you demonstrate how hard your head is. If you bother to read the article or others on this same topic they are looking to get maybe nine other counties to go along with them. That would get them the people (some of which are guardsmen who would probably get a promotion), the natural resources, and the financing to make a go as a state. You seem to think that someone would be pissed off and want to punishment them. The last two states were created in 1959. Now can you name the last state before that and how many years passed?

Trying to split CA into multiple states has been going on since before it became a state. The original application had the area split into California, the northern part, and Colorado, the southern part. It was actually Congress as part of the Compromise of 1850 that made it a single state.

Also, the creation of the state of Jefferson would involve Oregon since the southern counties there are also involved.

Actually it was Arizona in 1912, with New Mexico joining earlier that year.

If they have such vast resources, why do most of the CA counties involved in this have double digit unemployment? The primary resources/industries are some gold mining, recreation (mostly on US Govt. land), timber, and a couple of wine producing areas (Mendocino and the Willamette Valley). I don't see this as projecting into a near $100 billion GDP.
