They do work for someone. It is a form of indentured servitude, by which many of our ancestors came to this country, still practiced in the third world. I don't think anyone is being forced, but you have to pay off the people who paid to get you here. Hooking may be the fast track as compared to just massage, working at a Chinese restaurant or other business. I know at least three who have their own car, an apartment, and are somewhat independent, but if the boss says I need you to go to another city for 2 weeks, they have to go.
The real fast track is marry an American. Seen that too.
