Be careful on some of those tools. Defense tools are great places to hide "toolbars" and 3rd party apps that are ad or spyware. Always uncheck optional toolbars and "feedback" options. Especially if something is being given out as a free version they almost always have a back door of some type.

Default anyone use Virtual Machine for security

Does anyone use a Virtual Machine (VM) like VirtualBox or VmWare to house a hobby computer? The VM can be encrypted, password protected. If something happens you can delete the VM file. I create a pristine VM and then archive it. I get infected or hacked, delete the VM, replace with pristine one and then back up and running.

Malwarebytes will crash my system about 75% of the time. I don't know what the deal is, but it used to be my favorite anti-virus program. Maybe it's not Windows 7 friendly or something
Ok Windows 7 has a lock down more on software like Malwarebytes. That is why your system may lock up or be slow.

Windows 7 you need only the Windows essentials. and ccleaner.

It works good on Windows XP because it is really no longer supported.

I am using windows 8, windows 7 and I use Apple Lion in a virtual format on my laptop.

A friend of mine runs all the above software live on one laptop in different Windows.

As with Windows 8 and Office 13 I love them but you have the best fun with them if you are running the software with a touchscreen capable desktop.

I am hopefully getting a Windows 8 tablet to test soon. Looking forward to it.

Also much love to the Google Nexus (7) it is the best reader.

Hidemyass works real good on any wifi home or offsite You simply go to any browser type in hidemyass and it will give you a browser to search for anything It will fake your IP from people who are phishing.

Have you tried CCleaner on a Mac? The Uninstall looks interesting. Something not always easy to completely do on a Mac.

I don't really need to clean my Mac, I just use a separate user for my hobby activities to keep my browser history separate from my regular user.

I really try to not install or Apple. It is too lock down and not worth the effort. BTW Apple has been hit hard with virus. Friends of mine have proved that

Yah, Macs get viruses too! It's just more common for someone to write a virus/worm/trojan/etc. for a PC since it's more widely disseminated.

Ah yes, an idea started by IBM in the 60's. I installed, maintained, and programmed IBM VM systems for decades. My most enjoyable Assembler language programming was done on an IBM VM system.

Virtual machines are a wonderful idea that work quite well.
