Perfect opening for the Baptists.......Baylor christens their new stadium with a shut out over a young (or is it a talent-less?) Mustang squad. That game was over by the end of the first quarter.

I like June Jones and I think he's a pretty decent coach but I feel the deck is stacked against him. Recruiting Division 1 caliber talent in this state is a near impossibility once the UT's, OU's, A&M's, etc, etc of the world have their say. Not to mention the plums LSU, OSU, Bama and others snag around the state.

And now new kid on the block (Baylor) emerges with that new stadium, a recently crowned Heisman winner, a coach who understands and teaches a blitzkrieg-style offense, etc.....it appears Waco (of all places) is becoming a destination point for 4 and 5 star blue chippers around the state.

Is it time for SMU to acknowledge they'll never be what they once were (ie: the days of Doak Walker or The Pony Express)? Obviously Larry Brown has given their basketball team some credibility as of late (good luck hanging onto him for long considering his past) but the football squad is another story. They'll never step down a rung....but it's something they should consider.
