What kind of provider to hobbyist communication do you prefer?

I would enjoy getting a direct e-mail from a provider I've seen before. She would have to take a minute and talk about something that only we would know or have talked about. This would let me know that at least she wanted to talk with me and did not send the same e-mail to X number of other guys. It would put her at the top of my list by making the extra effort. Mass e-mails don't work and make me feel like an ATM and she just wants more money. Texts are the worst and always happen at the wrong time!

I actually am flattered to get an unsolicited note from someone I've seen before, but it should probably be via PM or perhaps e-mail. Texts are a bit risky from a comm sec perspective. I've gotten texts that pop up on my phone when SomeOne else is looking at it (e.g., sharing a funny YouTube video), and it's not comfortable!

I'm a firm believer that unsolicited communication with anyone you meet on this site should only be in the form of PMs initially. This is because I know of too many times that emails and phones get compromised and I don't want to be the source of incriminating information.

If your ECCIE account is compromised, my PM will be the least of your worries...there will be ample evidence you left on your own in most cases.

That said, if someone says, feel free to call, email or text...then all is fair within reason.
