Anyone with access to Publicdata.com can find out all of your personal info, and your family, and your neighbors with a minimal amount of info. Just a few minutes will yield occupation, address, vehicles, family members etc etc.. It's not that difficult if someone has any curiosity at all. No great skills are needed..

Exactly.....
If nothing maybe the thread reminds a few people of the need to stay careful.

I'm sure by speaking to the MODS, first, and then I'd probably create a new handle--maybe a vacation, but I wouldn't confront the other person. By their initial action they have shown that they are unstable; a reaction from me would only show the same.
Once again. NEVER, EVER have I ever outed a person nor would I. I take very seriously the bond we all share with each other.
Okay, I believe your sincerity.
IS there anything in regards to the subject you wish to offer?
No. I had a provider call my home once, and my wife answered; I pretended it was the Alumni office calling for a donation, and never spoke to that provider again. Fortunately, that situation past without question. Calling from the home phone was a great risk with no potential for any positive return.

As for bashing; again, you are suspect about SHARING knowledge you shouldn't have and writing a disconcerting blog about extorting hobbyists to their SOs, even if it was a fleeting, "humorous" thought. I really BELIEVED you were a more thorough and exacting poster than to put this troubling thought in our minds.
Even if you have never outed a member to their spouse before, you might NOW; past performance is NOT an acceptable predictor of future behavior. The SugarBabies you are so carefully investigating are too young to have a record or an adult past; its only a matter of time before one of them burns you,

You ARE insinuating something. Based on your response to Trees, it sounds like you are asking a benign question to the group, which contains a veiled threat back to Trees.
And make no mistake, you ARE threatening how easily you could extort/blackmail ANY member of this community whom you choose to focus on. AND we know YOU previously had access to the same databases (and may still have through your relationships).
We KNOW you gossip about us with others, and I wouldn't be surprised if you DO have a database of handles and gathered intel on us (be it RW or hobby-related).
I'm not bashing; I respect you...as I respect fire; a powerful tool and a devastating weapon.

So far none of your posts here have been anywhere close to the topic.......other than a bunch of accusations and inferences as to another's thoughts and/or intentions.
If you would like to start a thread regarding what goes on in Whispers mind, then please do so, but otherwise unless you have something to contribute to the subject at hand which is do folks in this hobby go to proper links to protect themselves, then I suggest that you move on.
By the way, on topic is not criticism of the OP's intent of lack of information in the initial posting. back on topic, please.

Had you actually given this subject more thought perhaps you would not have slipped in whatever manner gave a provider the ability to dial your home phone number? May you know everything you want to know about this subject but others may not of given it thought

Anyone MIGHT do ANYthing..... You can use that logic to justify disparaging anyone I guess?

you are so very wrong to think that.....Some people manage to find their way into trouble at an early age and never get far from it..... A recent example is a 20yo with 3 Public Intoxication and two Resisting Arrest Charges, Possession of a controlled Substance in a quantity not close to being for personal use...... None of that came up in conversation or on her Seeking Arrangement Profile.
Learning that allows me to let her know I doubt we are compatible and move on...

Whispers just wonderong if you realized in one of your scenarios you divulged information you learned abobout a hobbysist who.is a professor. The mind is a crazy thung. We use scenarios we are familar with but in an attempt to try and not divulge how we got info we change up story details.

I have no interest in starting a new thread of accusations against Whispers, but if the topic security, protection, and ability to be compromised, then my comments ARE on topic:
Whispers wrote something that I took as a warning against my security, protection, and ability to be compromised from himself.
Think about it, he lays out, in detail, a plan to extort joe-hobby and jane-provider and asks/answers the rhetorical question "So you think can you stop me; not if I put my mind to it."
If someone were to write "I could ________ a provider if I wanted to," and that blank contained any number of offenses, that person would catch some serious hell. How is this any different?
Whispers is basically saying HE is the greatest threat to the secrecy of our hobby. Seems pretty on-topic to me.

If you read Nuglet's post you may better understand exactly what Whispers is saying. Effectively, he is saying that with just the slightest bit of info and an internet connection, just about anyone, can learn all there is to know about an individual. Hell, all you need is a photo and you can search for matches. It is not about Whispers ability, it is about the ability of Jane Provider, Joe Hobby, or Pimpin McNasty to learn virtually everything about just about any one of us with just the slightest bit of info. One doesn't have to have special access to special databases to perform the necessary research.
You are making this all about Whispers not about the security risks of the Hobby.

LMAO You call a provider from your home phone and she calls you back on it? it seems to me that the only person you need to worry about affecting your security is your self. truthfully though, we usually are our own worst enemy when it comes to personal security. I guess it's a good thing that when I thought about robbing a bank as a kid playing cops and robbers the FBII didn't think that way and come lock me up.

This is obvious, you would rather just throw accusations in every thread that he creates or posts too.
|
Anyway - I think that this is a serious topic that hopefully people will take to heart. It is not possible to think that you are completely safe. The thoughts that Whispers has thrown our are on the tip of the iceberg if someone really wants to find out who you are.
It is important to discuss so that people keep safety at the top of mind.
For example, how do you do your best to keep your license plate safe for inquiring minds?
Discussion about a hobby phone seem relevant at this time. A refresher to the folks that have not done their fair share of reading the sticky posts about the hobby may learn a thing or two from this post.
This post is relevant and provides a discussion area. In some cases, that it the full intent of the original post, to drive a communication in the community. If you don't want to be part of it, then move along.

We can ALL do it, sure; but which of us IS doing it, and what are they doing with that information? It's not the part about access to personal info that scares me; it's the extortion.
You are making this all about Whispers not about the security risks of the Hobby.
The point is that member(s) with ideas about extorting others ARE the security risk not the presence of the info!
If Whispers had not intended to make himself the subject of the example, he should have said "What if someone wanted to extort you or tell your SO?" But he said, "I had the idea to..." He wanted someone to know the HE would be happy to wage war off the board.
|
RJ, Absolutely not; I have nothing against Whispers, but having read EVERY line of the TREES saga, I now hold Whispers to a higher standard than the average poster. I began reading the original post with an open mind, but my jaw hit the floor when I read about another member plotting to extort other members!
And yes, it is a good thread topic; please do discuss hobby phones and other identity hiding tools, not just ways we could potentially be caught.

If it was than it is a total coincidence but there is nothing remotely in the scenario to suggest "who".... Just that "some girl" was the ex of a professor at a school......
and the scenario is a hypothetical and NOT drawn from any real world information

I think extortion would require someone to approach you and tell you if you don't give them something that this is going to happen.
IF you think that others are not trading on their experiences to provide assistance to people looking for information than you are simply not thinking in a wide enough range.
Between now and then.... maybe you should give your personal situation some thought.
The idea of me being a concern to you after you call a provider from your home phone and she calls you back is a bit udicrous. Seems you are your own worse concern.... which is true of most here probably....
