I read a book some thirty years ago, "The Hatfields and the McCoys" by Virgil Carrington Jones. Randolph McCoy was twenty years older than Devil Anse. The book explains the McCoys (not Randolph: age?) of Kentucky fought for the Union; whereas, the Hatfields (including Devil Anse) of West Virginia fought for the South. The 'Romeo and Juliet' story is true.

Maybe they saved money on "Dark Shadows" by recycling most of the make up. It was, however, disappointing for a Depp film.
