Although it's always heartbreaking to hear about a little child being shot. This case is really a parenting issue instead of a gun issue. Iam not totally against some Gun regulations in terms of preventing convicted felons and EDP's from acquiring guns, total gun banning simply has it's draw backs and is not worth the arguments anymore. This is a video on the subject of gun control.

Timmy, timmy, timmy....ponder this why don't you. The story says that most children get a gun before first grade (who am I to argue with the writer who obviously knows everything) and we don't hear this story every day of the week, or even once a week, or once a month. It is so rare that it was a story that it happened. How about commenting on that Timmy?

If the 2 year old had a gun, she could've defended herself.

I have a question for all gun owners to ponder. Not trying to push any agenda.

You keep a gun in the house for that rare-but-happens home invasion. The family is at the dinner table or watching TV. Where would the gun normally be? Do you carry it around at all times when in the house? Do you keep it close by? Or is it locked away so that children can't have easy access to it?

IMHO, if it's either of the latter two, if the intention of the people breaking into your house is to kill you, you're dead.

The best screening for firearms ownership would probably be an IQ test.

Pediatrics should issue a handgun at birth.

Only a handgun?

Also, parents shouldn't be forced to take care of their kids. You're infringing in their freedoms and forcing them to spend their hard earned money on those jobless parasites. As soon as their born, toss them out into the street and let them pull themeselves up by their bootstraps like we did.

Oh yeah and charge them 9 months of room and board too.

Fucking newborn freeloaders.

Most parents don't seem to be taking care of their children. They keep pawning off that responsibility to others like the government. Parents want to be "friends" to their kids and not parents.

There is some logic to that. As soon as the police show that they are capable of keeping guns out of the criminals hands, I'd bring it up again. Personally, I have no faith in LE protecting me in my home, so I'd rather at least have the possiblility of defending myself and my family.

As speedracer says, if their intent is to kill you, you're dead. And if their intent is to simply intimidate you, then once they find out you have a gun and might kill them, their intent will then be to kill you.

My question ultimately would be, are more people saved because they had a gun handy when needed, or are more people killed because a gun happened to be handy when someone got pissed off?

I suspect it's the latter.

I think more people or saved because they have the possibility of having a gun. If not, the criminals would kill indiscriminately.

Doesn't sound like the dude had a gun. I'm guessing mace would have been sufficient.
