I don't disagree with you. However, I've read very few threads here that eventually don't take a turn for the worse.

It would be "Breaking News" if a thread in this forum did not take a turn for the worse. Especially if StupidOldLyingFart has something to do with it!

Number of US military Suicides in 2012: 349
Number of US military combat deaths in 2012: 295
Number of Murders in City Of Chicago: over 500
Interesting: Number of military suicides is down.
http://www.theatlanticwire.com/natio...es-2012/60985/
Statistics released today show that the U.S. military continues to struggle with suicide. In all, 349 servicemembers died by suicide in 2012, which is the highest number since 2001, when the Department of Defense first began tracking military suicides, and exceeds the 295 combat-related deaths recorded last year. The Pentagon was quick to push back on the numbers, telling the Associated Press that suicide rates among military personnel are statistically lower than average:
The Pentagon says that although the military suicide rate has been rising, it remains below that of the civilian population. It says the civilian suicide rate for males aged 17-60 was 25 per 100,000 in 2010, the latest year for which such statistics are available. That compares with the military's rate in 2012 of 17.5 per 100,000.

Well, on the bright side, maybe some of them were future Timothy McVeighs. Probably not, since those sorts are "on a mission," like most of our Teawipe Parrotriots who post here. The only difference is that the McVeigh types actually believe in action.
But, this is a result of fighting two wars "on the cheap," where Haliburton/BrownRoot and outfits like Shitwater get the $$ AND the R&R. We've worn the troops out and it's no surprise what's happened regarding the suicide rates. I'll bet that domestic life with those who return will be really peachy, too.
With all of that cynical rambling out of the way, it goes waaay past sad.

So the Military Suicide Rate is actually lower than the general population.
What is the suicide rate among Carpenters? Plumbers? Accountants? Doctors? Lawyers? Teachers? etc?
We went through the same crap with those of us who are Vietnam Vets. The vast majority of us came home and got on with life. Some simply could not cope with the responsibilities of living and fell into any one of the various "syndromes" that justify any condition.
Who's to say they would have been the same regardless.
I may sound cynical, but there are those who end up in a dead end life regardless of the circumstances that are thrown their way. Multitudes of us in my generation still carry the scars of being put into a situation that we did not ask to be in. The difference is we don't make a career out of whining about it for the rest of our lives.
