Not in my book. I'll eat it from time to time, but I've never understood the appeal pizza apparently has to so many people. Even when done with very fresh ingredients with hand tossed crust in a wood burning over, there are much better choices.

When are you going to hit your magic # & head to France
While it may not be the finest food in the world it has its place.
If nothing else it is a communal food - perfect for sharing as a group. For many of us I bet sharing a pie conjures up great memories with friends or loved ones.
Then the other quality it has is in many locales (aside from chinese) it is one of the few things you can consistently get delivered. Tell me your law firm hasn't ordered hundreds if not thousands of pizzas over the years as you've plotted to make enough Texan money to move out of the Lone Star State

A thin crust pizza with plenty of black olives and a few pepperoni. I like to eat mine without pizza sauce sometimes because I like to enjoy the toppings' flavor.

IMO a wonderful authentic italian pizza can be the finest food known to man -- or at least to me.
Often the most simple food is the best. e.g. since the super-hyped "Girl & the Goat" venue in Chicago came up here in a thread, I just discussed with close friends how relative things are.
We all came to the conclusion if we were given the choice btwn. a full dining experience at G&tG or only a bottle of croatian Hvarski Plavac (e.g. Zlatan Plavac), Vindija Caprodur (a special croatian hard goat cheese, with a wonderful taste) and good white bread we all would choose the latter.
"Girl & the Goat" is certainly an authentic american up-scale dining experience but it can not compare to a bottle of Plavac wine and Caprodur hard goat cheese with simple white bread.
esp. wonderful while on a Mediterranean sailing trip with friends.

Pepe's in New Haven. They typically end up in the top ten lists in magazines/papers/reviewers. Thin crust and incredibly fresh. We'll sometimes get a clam pizza as a "starter." Fresh clams on the pie with oil, garlic, no cheese. Yum. Coal fired ovens really do the trick. A few years ago they finally expanded to four other locations. While they are very good they are a click off of pies from the original location (Wooster Street). I generally get Genesee beer with it. It's a good pizza beer (not heavy). http://www.pepespizzeria.com/

You didn't eat at Golden Burro Cafe did you? I know it is bad, always avoided it at the recommendation of friends. There are a some good dining places in that little town IMO and a frew really crappy ones.
Back on topic.. I think California Pizza Kitchen would quality as a chain restaurant, they would get my vote when it comes to best chain pizza place.

Try Garlic Breath in Round Rock. The Carnivore, 4 meats any choice or the Tree Hugger, 4 veggies any choice. Outstanding product.

Homeslice on South Congress in Austin is absolutely divine! If I'm not up for the ever-present wait for Homeslice or I'm feeding into my genuinely lazy nature, I order from Papa Johns . Who could pass up their garlic butter sauce?
As far as toppings, the more the better!

Good Call Ana, Mellow Mushroom is the best pizza in the world, My friend owns the one in Fort Worth. I have eaten pizza in every country I have been to. Turkey was by far the worst, they substituted hot dogs weinies for pepperoni. Honorable mention goes to the pizza I had in the desert in Morocco that was baked on a rock with sour dough crust.
