Very true. The odds of the police being in the area when a crime is being committed is very low. Does not matter whether or not you are in a major city or a rural town.
But no matter which side of gun control you are on, the FACT that the U.S. has a problem with deaths by handgun is undeniable.
http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2...y-study-finds/
The conclusion of the research:
They concluded that more guns do not make people safer.

well you see...I know me, you don't but I do.. and what i know is I'm not going to murder anyone or commit a crime with a gun
so if I have a gun, it will not contribute to any statistics or be a part of any study you cite, unless either I or my family or some innocent person or a luby's cafeteria I'm in or near is attacked...
so a gun will make me safer...it may not save me in a gun fight..but it will tend to make me safer than if I didn't have one
the same can be said of other law abiding people
so the answer, it seems to me, is not found in less guns in the hands of law abiding people...it could very well be that guns in the hands of MORE law abiding people will make everyone safer

Yet the study cited totally disagrees with your conclusions. You do realize that MOST murders are committed by law-abiding citizens. That is they were law-abiding citizens until they killed another person.

didn't read the study..nor do I have any knowledge as to how it was compiled..for liars do figure
but murder and killing are two different things.. some people need to be killed
but this I know, all in all, im safer with a gun than without regardless of the study

So, I'm taking a poll on people who murder other people ... and I ask them ....
"Before you murdered that other person(s) had you committed any other crimes?"
And their answer is: "No"?
So, I have one more person in the column for: Murderers who hadn't committed a crime?
How about this question?
"Before you murdered that other person(s) had you ever breast fed from your mother?"
Now we know what causes people to murder (depending on the stats)!
Now, let's move to reality .... this little turd that shot these unarmed people .....
.. had he committed any other crimes before he walked into the mall and shot them?
That is a rhetorical question .. but if you must .. go ahead.

I disagree totally. What I do agree with is you BELIEVE you are safer with a gun. Think you are safer in your home with a gun? It is more likely that a homeowner's gun will be used to kill an innocent person rather than used in protecting his home from a would-b criminal. But feel free to live in your delusional world.

Don't understand at all what your comments are getting at.
My statement was directed at anyone who believes that putting more handguns in the hands of law-abiding citizens will decrease crime. Just does not hold up when reality is presented. Of course, most ardent gun owners don't like reality checks.
