I have a part time mainstream job that I created a LinkedIn for, and suddenly tons of my hobby clients began showing up in my suggested friends feed...within a day or two of me having it up.
I was in no way signed in to my hobby email, I made sure of that before I even began. I still have no idea how everything got all mixed up. It seems illegal almost. I had to delete everything. I recently bought an old lap top which I now use just for the hobby and my new computer is never used for hobby email/this board etc.. I may try it again but I was pretty freaked out.

The problem is that "email clients" -- not the email account itself, but the "client"

An email client [mail user agent] is a program used to access, archive, send, receive, et. al your email... also to maintain your contact lists (obviously!)...

Many MUAs are available; I know of at least a dozen for both IBM-type computers and several for Macs, and, obviously there are multiple MUAs for smart phones, iPhones and god only knows what's inside a tablet, phablet, etc.

If you are using a single MUA to handle your communications, and, if you have more than one communications channel, like several email accounts, being handled by that solo MUA, quite likely you have a SINGLE contact list.... although it may be somewhat displayed as multiple lists.

When you authorize Linked-In, or, for that matter, FaceBook, or any other website/program to have access to your contact list, the outside organization harvests the entire contact list. OOOOOPS!

For the OP and friend - I am mystified regarding how you went from an issue with LinkedIn, to making a non-logical leap to suspecting P411... what the hell?
